ksjb, the only ... ( 2 months ago by Boxing1977Boxing)
ksjb, the only thing you have to prove Duran is great is that he beat Leonard? He beat him when Ray never had a superfight in his life yet.. And then Ray beat Duran in the rematch and then again in the 3rd fight. If he beat Leonard in the rematch you would have had something, but Ray outclassed him. Who was better? Azumah Nelson or Jeff Fenech. Fenech fought better in the first fight, but was knocked out easily in the rematch. Fenech is better?
Hearns beat Cueves ... ( 2 months ago by Boxing1977Boxing)
Hearns beat Cueves at welterweight. That is a great. That is why Hearns was so well thought of .He didn't just beat him he knocked him out easily. And Hearns fought Harold Weston and beat him.. I am proving to you names and greats and you are denying what I say. I think my points are better and I am proving all the greats Hearns beat. Duran did not beat a Virgil Hill quality at supermiddleweight, which would have been equal to what Hearns did at light heavy.
Duran beat Palomino ... ( 2 months ago by Boxing1977Boxing)
Duran beat Palomino? So what. Palomino trained out of Westminster boxing club in California- not a great gym. Noah Cruz worked there, proving how bad it was. Palomino was not a great fighter. Very average. That is not a great win. Fact which you are ignoring is Duran lost to Benitez and Hearns easily. Yet you are making statements that this is nullified by Duran beating Palomino easily? Palomino is not the level of a Hearns or Benitez, Obviously. He couldn't beat Hearns/Benitez.
Duran's popularity ... ( 2 months ago by Boxing1977Boxing)
Duran's popularity is not that great. What I argue about is Duran fans buying his excuses. He lost to Hearns and Benitez and Leonard and Hagler fair and square. The only fighter who lost to all 4 of them.
Popularity wasn't ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
Popularity wasn't that great? in order to be over-rated in the 1st place you need to be popular. he's far more popular than Hearns. Duran and Leonard were the most popular in that era. Hagler 3rd then maybe Hearns. He beat a 33 year old Duran but couldn't beat a prime Leonard or Hagler. There is nothing great about beating Cuevas. he had 6 losses when he fought Hearns. And Hearns was the 1st great fighter he fought. what does that say about Cuevas? Duran beat him at age 26 when he was 31 also.
Palomino wasn't ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
Palomino wasn't great. but yet Benitez fought him instead of Duran for the 147 title. this is why Duran used the same guy as a tune up for Leonard, whom he beat. Benitez didn't want to fight Duran at a lower weight class, but as soon as things start to go downhill for him he wants him. Hearns is great but trying to argue Benitez and Duran's careers is a joke. I believe that Hearns would've beaten Duran at 147 also but Benitez against the Duran from Montreal? are you serious?
and the thing about ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
and the thing about most Duran fans on youtube is that they don't know boxing. I do. Benitez was a geat defesnive fighter like Duran but his offense sucked. this guy couldn't KO anybody in his best weight classes. Benitez fans (If they're are any) know that Duran was a washed up shadow of himself when he fought benitez and they use that to say he beat a great. kinda like Hearns fans. Cuevas was not great, but yet you say he is even tho he lost to tomato cans Duran would've beaten easily.
and really deep ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
and really deep down any boxing expert is not going to agree with what you say on here. just because Hearns is you're favorite fighter in the whole wide world doesn't mean he was the greatest. difference is, when people say he is, everybody just ignores it and keeps it moving. you on the other hand get mad when people talk about Duran over Hearns. He beat DeJesus and Leonard. two greats. thats all, i dont need to make guys like Ceuvas and Buchanan look great for the benefit of the doubt.
and Duran beat tons ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
and Duran beat tons of notables at 135. Ernesto Marcel beat Arguello at lightweight. Duran destroyed him at 118 lbs. Valomir Fernandez also beat Arguello, and Duran knocked him out too. He beat DeJesus and Buchanan too. Duran could've took a baby step to 140 and beaten Arguello and Cervantes but he went up to classes to beat Leonard. on top of that Pryor owned Hearns at 140. that would've never happened to Duran. Pryor was tailor made for Duran. str8 foward and never backed up.
and as far as ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
and as far as anybody today, the only fighter who would've beaten him is mayweather. i agree that style would've caused him problems.fighters like Mosley or Meldrick taylor(greats) wouldn't have done good with Duran becasue they didn't have the movement. fast hands didn't mean anything against Duran if you couldn't move with them. especially at 135-147. How about you educate yourself before you throw a tantrum and dickride Hearns.
one last thing. i ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
one last thing. i know pernell whitaker is your bread and butter. he's a great fighter but look at how chavez' constant pressure didn't allow him to move like he wanted. imagine a quicker, smarter, and greater defensive fighter aplying that pressure? Duran would've given Whitaker just as many issues as Whitaker would give Duran. I can't call that fight but if they did fight, it would be close, and it would go the cards.
I don't know why ... ( 2 months ago by FastBoxer1984)
I don't know why you guys are arguing who is better Duran or Hearns. They are both great. Great wins for both and accomplishments. Both moved up and did well and both knocked out alot of guys. They are both linked to each other. Why are you guys arguing which great is better? Both were great in different ways. Great guys also. Man.. I respect both.
i agree. ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
i agree.
exactly.. hagler, ... ( 2 months ago by Kiefty)
exactly.. hagler, hearns and duran were probably on par, i could watch them fight each other forever
Hearns was never ... ( 2 months ago by FastBoxer1984)
Hearns was never the same after Hagler. He had so much skill he still beat top rated guys, but he started to struggle.
I agree Keifty, all ... ( 2 months ago by FastBoxer1984)
I agree Keifty, all 4 of those guys were all equal. 20 years later is it not important who was better and who beat whom. I think what is important is how they impacted boxing. Those 4 guys (Duran and Hearns and Hagler and Leonard) revived boxing in the 1980s and made it the best it could be. They could not have made it better had these scripted it.
hagler was stopped ... ( 2 months ago by simoncbr900rr)
hagler was stopped from having a title shot for a long time...if he got his shot earlier he would have been champ for a lot longer...he was unstoppable in his prime he would have hammered the fuk out of any middleweight who has ever lived
But the title shot ... ( 2 months ago by Neglefil79)
But the title shot against, ehm the guy that retained the title on a draw (don't remember the name sorry). He should have won that one.
duran woulda beat ... ( 2 months ago by PrincessKate365)
duran woulda beat pryor no question.but pryor beat hearns in the olypics.this is the friggin big leagues.tommy s right hand would have sent pryor 2 the canvas.ala tommy vs duran
i can agree with ... ( 2 months ago by ksjb85)
i can agree with that. a pryor/duran fight at 140 would've been classic.

Hagler was nt ... ( 1 month ago by GILLYRUTH)
Hagler was nt stopped, from having a early title shot .Following a relatively good unbeaten run ,in his early career. He started 1976 with two losses in as many months to the sort of fighters ,that a contender should be beating. Then when he got his chance,he failed to deal convincingly with a shit kicker like Antuofermo .So before you can say "four wasted years",your 28 or 30 or how ever old he said he was.
