It's all about supply and demand. The information is worth what the purchaser believes it is worth. Yes, you can discount publishing and most other costs, but you are still left with the value of the info itself. How much would a mother pay for information to cure her child? If you sell an eBook too cheaply, you devalue the content. Suppose our hypothetical mother saw "The Cure" available for $2 online - do you think she'd trust it to be real?

I do agree that these insanely highly prices on digital books are....well, insane. $147 for a book? $97 for an ebook? I thought the promise of the digital age was to bring prices down.

It doesn't matter if there's a password on the Pdf file, they have password cracking programs for all different types of files. It doesn't matter if it's a pdf, doc, xls, zip.whatever.

What a load of crap to justify theft. When you download an ebook there is no publisher. Somebody wrote that book in order to make money. It took them time and effort - if you're lucky, the content is actually worth what you paid for it, otherwise ask for your money back. That $147 calculus book? Yep, some of that goes to printing and publishing costs, but you're also paying the author(s) who have no doubt spent years learning and studying the topic. You're paying to avoid having to do that.

Knowledge is valuable if I actually shared some of my best SEO tips, I would want more than $5. It takes a while to write ebooks too (at least good ones anyways). Most of the home business Gurus I know and talk to are going away from pdfs(except the cheap almost giveaway ones) Video is in and everyone is switching to that. And everyone knows to protect the videos by using a 3rd party such as aws.amazon(dot) com. No more site stealing. The sneaky ways of theft are at an end!

Wrong. There are people who make lots of money from infoproducts. How is it, then, that my clients would keep hiring me to write e-books, landing pages, autoresponders, sales pages, etc. for these infoproducts?
