So pavlik is pretty stuck as HBO won't take any fights at 160 at the moment and calzaghe has chosen a faded fighter of the 90's, with his prime days almost a decade behind him.
so whether people like it or not the williams fight was probably one of the better fights left in the hat. i agree hopkins doesnt deserve it, it will be interesting seeing if pavlik can cope with hopkins style and whether pavlik could KO B-hop.

Dirk- Does Arthur not still have the IBF 160 belt? Yes he does. Does Pavlik not still have the WBC,WBO, Ring 160 belts even after fighting a rematch w/Taylor @166? Some fights like those 2 bring money regardless, never the less when Pavlik takes on a Lockett or Abraham takes on Marquez or Ayala they do make more money than normal to quote your buddy Lennox Lewis after Larry Merchant said Abner Mares was fighting for some stupid belt, yes in some cases they are worth something.

Dirk you can't buy it?Call HBO yourself or research the correct American news stories.They say plain as day that HBO will not televise or buy a Pavlik-Rubio fight or a Pavlik-Duddy fight.Try convincing Sturm to come fight Pavlik over here after what happened against Oscar. Winky Wright thinks he deserves over $2million for a Pavlik fight when they only have 1.6 to split it won't be a big seller. Also I find it humerous that ol Joe can fight Popkins but now there's a problem if Pavlik does it?

That makes no sense to me. Since when was Williams such a big name anyway? Its just baffling that HBO couldnt find a single opponet in 3, hell even 4 weight divisions & they have to put him in with a welter.
I never said there was a problem. The problem is the hypocrisy of Pavlik fans and Pavlik's people. Read Arum's quotes about how Popkins should be put out to pasture. And the Pavlik fans discrediting Joe's win against "grandpa". Now their guy is fighting him - doesnt look so good, does it?

Dirk - Yes Arthur-Pavlik does fall into that category. Its my perception that neither wants to give up their belts, the fight is meaningless above 160 like Abraham-Miranda II was, and its Abraham who is hanging up the Pavlik fight not Pavlik. I have gone on record and will do it again by saying I pick Calzaghe over Pavlik wouldn't you agree? I will also go on a limb and state that the longer it takes for that fight to be made (wink wink Joe) the better Pavlik's chances become, agreed?

Dirk - Williams is recognizable more so than Rubio or Duddy. I'm a Pavlik fan, but I'm a realist. Only the nut huggers like Pac Man's would even dare say Calzaghe is scared, its ludicrous, its all about risk/reward. Pavlik his higher risk than Jones IMO and a lot less reward. I haven't seen anybody discrediting Calzaghe's win against Popkins as the Brits like to call him.And I certainly don't condone Pavlik fighting him,its all for money, Popkins doesn't deserve it after his last performance.

Abraham and his people say they have to fulfill their obligation to the winner of Lorenzo-Marquez as a mandatory just like Pavlik just did w/ Lockett. Nobody said Abraham won't fight Pavlik he just won't fight him in his next bout. Its Pavlik's next bout that has everybody confused b/c its voluntary and HBO can and will pick and chose who they approve.

Dirk- First Popkins is the name HBO approved from 154-175. Winky is another who won't except realistic pay Sergio Mora is tied up. So there's 3 names. Calzaghe has very little to gain by picking up Tarver/G.Johnsons leftovers and a hell of a lot to lose against Jones, just the facts. As far as Pavlik's people switching, I have no problem with Pavlik wacking out Duddy or Rubio. Its HBO that has the problem and are force feeding us Hopkins. Most would rather see Williams and his 81" reach.

Personally I think Hopkins could very well beat Pavlik which would make his team look even more stupid than they do right now.

Arthur wasnt obligated to give Miranda shit. Yet he still did it because he wanted the big fight. I cant believe that he wouldnt drop the thing altogether to make a bucketload of money against Pavlik. Not like he couldnt pick up the trinket again down the line. I havent heard Pavlik's team even m
