| u had to be special to beat tommie. Iran Barkley is probably the only undistinguished fighter who beat Hearns twice. Fred tries to stand up to tommie and pays the price. Good way to get killed. You had to have a great chin like Leonard or Hagler to take the bombs that tommie was throwing. |

Most people believe Hearns was at his best at 147....I think he peaked at 154, however.
He boxed brilliantly against Benitez, & here against Hutchings (& Duran, of course), he shows you the most lethal offense this side of Joe Louis. |

| That must be the scariest thing being in the ring with Tommy, trying to him as hard as you possibly can, and he just comes right after you with that big smile on his face. Guys with half the heart as Fred Hutchings would have given up right there. |

| i'm from stockton, ca and that was fred hutchings hometown.iused to be friends with his niece in elementary school. i used to go see his fights as a kid and he was pretty good. fred was a crackhead and a thief even during his fighting days. i hope he is doing better now days. a friend of mine at work named cliff bevels used to be buddies and roommateswith fred and my friend said fred used to steal his stuff including money and his stereo. |
