Holmes was the only one to come close if you talk about efficiancy, but like you said not with the grace of Ali. Holmes was a master in ring movement. Spinks and Walcott don't qualify to be compared with Ali.

As for moving BETTER there is debatably no one in the history of the heavyweight division, especially if you factor in style. Jersey-Joe Walcott danced similarly to Ali however. As for ring movement, fighters like Holmes and Michael Spinks used the ring incredibly well, again not witht the grace of Ali, but still used it well. Boxing is a olympic discipline, it's not street fighting but a noble art. Ali mastered ring movement like no other in history. I love the way the refs are counting out fighters that are clearly, either, out cold or incapacitated. They peel fighters who're struggling to stand from the ropes and push them back into the fight so they can get even more fucked up. I think things are definitely better now.

The only reason Ali lasted in thrilla in manilla and most of his other boxing fights is because he winged it the whole way. Dances around his opponents till their tired. What kind of a real boxer is he ? Doesn't step toe to toe with any of the real boxers. Marciano had 1000 pounds of pressure per punch when he was in his prime. Sugar Ray is the complete fighter period.
