Asthetically, as a fight, Duran-Leonard I blows away Robinson-La Motta VI, which is a classic fight as well. But there is just so much more subtance and entertainment in Duran-Leonard I.

There is no one to ... ( 1 year ago by Telcontar1962)
There is no one to touch SRL. Not in any division not any any time. He had everything. I doubt we will ever see his like again...well at least not inmy lifetime. I think he beat Duran fighting Duran's fight. When it came to fighting his own style he destroyed him mind, body and soul Ali style.
duran kicked ... ( 1 year ago by marc5610)
duran kicked leonardes ass the first fight. duran gave him a rematch right away which he shoudnt have. it was don king mr money hungry.duran just got frustrated because leonard was running aruond the ring . duran could have floored him anytime. duran is one of the alltime greats not sugar ray. duran was a complete fighter. sugar ray was ok. duran from panama one tough mf.

I was there, & I'm tellin you, Duran NEVER said "No Mas" NEVER SAID IT! What he said was " Honestly Ray, do you need to get so rough? You are far to mean for me Mr Sugar, so if you dont mind, I am going home now. I bet you wouldnt be getting so rugged if I were Tomas Hearns. Behave, please!"
If Duran hadnt been ... ( 1 year ago by benjaminBarr)
If Duran hadnt been in shape for the 2nd fight, he could not have weighed under the 147 lb limit. He had to work very hard to make that weight, the little pig. Ray had givin him his toughest fight EVER. You think he was dumb enough to go in the ring out of shape? If you think he would have done that, then you think he is stupider than I do
You can make weight ... ( 1 year ago by los005)
You can make weight and not be in good condition. There's a big difference. If you can't see the difference between Duran in Montreal and New Orleans then you're blind. I give Leonard credit for being prepared and having a good game plan. Duran should not have quit. #1 the fight was still close, Leonard was ahead by only 1 point 2 of the three cards. #2 more importantly, Duran would have received an immediate rematch not 10yrs later when both we're shadows of themselves.
All this talk about ... ( 1 year ago by benjaminBarr)
All this talk about Duran was not in shape for the 2nd fight. Why did his trainers, Ray Arcel & Freddie both, say he was in EXCELLENT physical shape for that fight? They nearly fainted when he quit. Freddy never forgave him, cause you didnt do that shit, not where HE came from. Freddy even said later that he made up the stomach cramps story, he told Duran to say it, cause NOTHING was wrong with him! He quit out of fear of being humiliated by Ray
Now, maybe there is ... ( 1 year ago by benjaminBarr)
Now, maybe there is a lot of stuff taht I dont know about boxing, A whole lot. But THOSE two guys knew it ALL! They said Duran was in as good of shape for that 2nd fight with Ray as he had EVER been. EVER! And they would know, they had gotten him prepared for every fight he had had since Buchanan. They knew about his condition better than he did himself. It was his MIND that was not in shape, thats all. Fear can do that to a boxes. Fear of losing, thats what Durans problem was, pure & simple.
Are you sayin that ... ( 1 year ago by benjaminBarr)
Are you sayin that Leonard might have let Duran win the 1st fight ON PURPOSE, so he could make TWICE AS MUCH when he came back & beat him in the 2nd fight??? Give that man a cigar!
Check out Part 7 of ... ( 1 year ago by SmelOdies)
Check out Part 7 of Robinson-La Motta VI, which I uploaded. It's the closest you'll see of La Motta dictating the pace against Ray.

Duran's not the ... ( 1 year ago by ronMexico121)
Duran's not the type to get scared. More likely, Leonard WASN'T scared in the rematch. Duran's a bully fighter. He uses intimidation to his advantage, with Leonard feeling confident, The Hands Of Stone lost his edge.

duran was a bullying little low blowing cheat. this is what happens when someone like that meets a real pugilist.
fair play to duran for the 1st fight. they won one each so ask yourself, why was there no third fight?
cos duran wanted nothing to do with it. bullies dont like to fight people they cant beat

he did, n i know dat for a fact.. it was him or his wife who said it n its true. its a known fact. once in a magazine in a story about ray it said "ppl ive beaten up" n there was pictures of davey boy, donny lalonde n his wife. dats why some ppl dislike him, cuz not only did he get most of his succes due to his public persona rather than his ring skills. but dat public image was also completely false
