Since you think you ... ( 10 months ago by nikitobu)
Since you think you know so much about Savon and cuban boxers what about Jorge luis gonzalez 2 times panamerican gold meldalist he beat Savon once, he beat Riddick Bowe he beat Lennox Lewis all of them as "amateur" he then turned pro he wanted to fight Riddick bowe again he got the SHIT beat out of him got knocked out in the 7th round pro boxing is amateur boxing.
So, are you ... ( 10 months ago by shillets)
So, are you suggesting that Gonzalez was of a similar standard to that of Savon or Stevenson!!!
I know all about Gonzalez thankyou very much, and the way he blew up in weight when he became a pro.
Their is a hugew difference between the pro and amateur game, but it's ludicrous to suggest Savon would'nt have been a force as a pro!!
How come Savon won ... ( 10 months ago by shillets)
How come Savon won a world championship at 19 then?
How come Stevenson won an olympic gold medal at the age of 20?
Are you suggesting they fought and beat a load of 11/12 yr olds!!
Your argument is very weak.
Even as teenagers, the great Cubans were battering their US counterparts.
Savon chose to stay ... ( 10 months ago by shillets)
Savon chose to stay amateur. You have to applaud the mans principles. He was'nt motivated by cash and fame.
Had he tunred pro, he would of been a major, major player in the sport, and probably a world champion.
Wait and see what Odlanier Solis does to todays US heavyweights in the pro ranks. He will eat every single one of them.
You are out of your ... ( 10 months ago by nikitobu)
You are out of your mind he never blew up in weight when he fought Riddick Bowe he was in his best shape of his life but anyways Savon would have a chance if turned pro early in his career, even the sports announcer mentioned that he had power but no coordination.
Dude you are ... ( 10 months ago by nikitobu)
Dude you are talking so much shit that its coming out of ears, obviously you are not Cuban cause you dont know anything He didn't turn pro cause Castro wouldn't let him or else his family would paid for it. and Solis he aint going nowhere he's fighting nobody in Europe trying to build a record if he ever crosses over to the USA hes going to get his ass whip.
I find it sad that ... ( 10 months ago by shillets)
I find it sad that a middle aged man like yourself, can't get to grips with facts.
Solis would beat any US heavyweight out there probably, with only 3 pro fights to his name!!
Todays US heavyweights are completely shit.COMPLETELY.
Savon said he could have truned pro(a few Cubans do.They escape the country)but he preffered to have the love of his people over money(same as Stevenson)
I see what all this is about now.You cannot hack the fact USdon't produce top class heavies no more.
What facts? Savon ... ( 10 months ago by nikitobu)
What facts? Savon could have turned pro so what anybody can turn pro that doesn't mean they're going to make it. I already told Solis aint going nowhere so quit having WET DREAMS with the cuban boxers.
If Stevenson, Savon ... ( 9 months ago by Maco1974bc)
If Stevenson, Savon, or any of the cuban stars of today or the past. would of turned pro they would rule every single weight class. NO QUESTION!!
NUNCA! The cubans ... ( 8 months ago by zonic101)
NUNCA! The cubans never do well when the fight here on the Championship level. You must understand, cubans are pros when they fight in the olympics. So, they are fighting our amateurs. If you would make them fight our pros they would do so well.
Savon is an amateur ... ( 6 months ago by LennoxLewis86)
Savon is an amateur legend, it's no use thinking about what force he could've been..
Amateur experience is good, but some ATG amateurs were bums as a pro, other good amateurs (like Byrd) used his experience to the fullest to achieve more then he actually was capable of..
US are producing ... ( 6 months ago by lion2010)
US are producing poor heavy weights, UK doesn't have great great ones since lewis left (some up and coming) but Solis would do well turning pro but would have major competition from the Soviet/German/EAstern European boxers who dominate today due to their hard training regimes.

I am sick to DEATH ... ( 4 months ago by Galactus247)
I am sick to DEATH of seeing these overgrown, mature (been around for years) cuban 'amateurs' beating up new, young, fresh, inexperienced amateurs from other countries and getting GOLD medals! Not fair! If any boxer wins a GOLD Olympic boxing medal, they shouldn't be allowed to compete at that level again, Go PRO or stay LOW!

Cada vez que veo ... ( 3 months ago by solanorrrrrr)
( 3 months ago by solanorrrrrr)
( 3 months ago by nikitobu)
If cubans were ... ( 2 months ago by alexsep82)
If cubans were trained to be pro then they would be able to beat your pros. Before the revolution there were very good cuban pro boxers . Cubans are good in many sports , they have it in blood ,that's why they are one of the top 10 reigns in all sports.
Galactus247: This ... ( 2 months ago by nikitobu)
Galactus247: This is exactly what i tell this people that speak so highly of the cuban boxers they are very good amateurs and anybody would be if they box as amateurs for the rest of their lives and never turn pro.Imagine Tyson,Hollyfield,Ali,Foreman etc.Boxing as amateur at every olympics against 18 year olds.
okay, so they're ... ( 1 month ago by thelaughingduck2001)
okay, so they're not allowed to box as a pro. but you don't think they should be allowed to box as a top-class amateur if they're successful. so what you're saying is, these guys should give up the one thing they've got because they're too experianced? maybe the rest of the World's amateurs should up heir games and study the previous winners in their weight classes and figure out how to beat them.Mario Kindelan beat Amir Khan in the final, but by their rematch Khan had a game plan. He won.
