Of course Foreman's ... ( 4 days ago by etahasgard1986)
Of course Foreman's tactics were prohibited-- just check the rules-- he shoved Frazier from the get-go. Had to keep Joe at a distance and up-right where he could hit him.
Smart tactics-- but illegal.
The young Foreman was a thug-- a head case-- a cross between his hero Sonny Liston and Tyson. Very limited boxing skills-- just rode a huge punch. Brawler beats the boxer Puncher beats the brawler boxer beats the puncher

No-- he allowed clearly illegal tactics--
What about Ali's ... ( 4 days ago by Aurelian147)
What about Ali's illegal tactics? Habitually grabbing his opponent by the neck, and his fondness for wrestling and holding.
When I refer to 60' ... ( 4 days ago by Bigbadben7)
When I refer to 60's ALi I mean 66/67, but like anyone he took people lightly, but won. I remember when Evander was Champ, he was critized for not KO'n older or lesser men.
We can't count out the heart of the opponent or how hard they trained and studied.
Yet, Like Ali he still beat up on them the whole fight.
Vs Copper Ali got lazy casue he was killing him, his next bout vs much more dangerous Liston he had learned his lesson.
Don King placed Ali/Foreman in Ziare, he was a George lover.
What I said still ... ( 4 days ago by Aurelian147)
What I said still applies to 66-67 Ali. Unconvincing vs the limited Chuvalo and Mildenberger. Even in their 2nd fight Cooper was able to catch him with left hooks. Folley was an excellent fighter but way past his prime. Vs Williams Ali looked great, but again his opponent was a shell of himself, with a bullet in his back, a shrivelled leg and 10ft of intestine missing. I see nothing to support your claim that this version would embarass Foreman and Frazier.

Foreman really uses the height advantage by swingn hi mround and stuff lol, but frazier moves very well for a heavywight. they all did in them days.
Damn that referee ... ( 3 days ago by cougarfighting)
Damn that referee was still around in the 2000's retired in his 80's damn!.
Chin is something ... ( 3 days ago by Bigbadben7)
Chin is something you always have, it doesn't get better with age, if anything gets worse.
Ali's in the 70s was one of the best.
Regarles of his opponents, in 66/67 his reflexes, hand speed, footwork were not only better, but the best ever, it's mere physics.
If a rusty 29 year old Ali can win several rds and go 15 vs prime Joe then win twice then beat prime George even further past his prime, then a young wouldn't have been forced to the rpoes as much, but still have fought well if he was.
question, if ... ( 3 days ago by jaqua524)
question, if someone goes down 3 times in one round it is a TKO right. Does it matter how long the person is down, or just the third time they go down, its a TKO?
In the 60s his ... ( 3 days ago by Aurelian147)
In the 60s his opposition was limited, with a big gulf in class and/or age. Yet he still ran into trouble. If Chuvalo could catch him with good punches & force him to the ropes, so could Frazier and Foreman. Watch the Mildenberger fight, where he struggled against an awkward yet limited opponent. The same goes for the Jones or Cooper fights. I see nothing in his 60s fights to suggest he would beat Frazier & Foreman as easily as you say. Looking good against Brian London does nothing for me.
Once he goes down ... ( 3 days ago by Bigbadben7)
Once he goes down the 3rd time, assuming the three knockdown rule is in affect, it is a TKO.
There is no need to count becasue the fight ends the moment he hits the canvas the 3rd time.
My point is that ... ( 3 days ago by Bigbadben7)
My point is that Ali just simply as good in the 70s as he was in the 60s even though he did beat better competitionin the 70s.
Great fighters aoften lower themselves to the competition but still win then look much better against better competition.
The 60s example is Ali vs Liston right after getting floored by Cooper, and some of the fights you mentioned but then looking as good as he did vs Folly who Ali obviously respected.
Don't believe he ... ( 3 days ago by Aurelian147)
Don't believe he deliberately made himself look bad against Chuvalo, Jones, Mildenberger and Cooper et al. We can only go by how he actually fared against these guys, not how he could/should have. My view remains that if they could cause him problems (but were not good enough to capitalise) then so could his better 70s opponents. Folley is another example, a 50s fighter way over the hill by the time he fought Ali.
I didn't say that ... ( 2 days ago by Bigbadben7)
I didn't say that he delibertly looked bad, only that sometimes you aren't mentally or even physically up for certain bouts.
Winning is all that matters though.
The best example is team sports.
We often see better team play down to their lesser opponents then play much beter against more respected competition.
He hardly blasted ... ( 2 days ago by Aurelian147)
He hardly blasted away his best opponents either. He lost the first Frazier fight decisively, and the other two were close. All three Norton fights were close. He had to soak up some serious punishment from Foreman before winning. Unfit or not, he struggled badly against Young. Sure winning is all that matters, but the manner of his victories in the 60s tells me he wouldn't have it easy against his best 70s opponents, whether in his prime or not.
Frazier 1 fight was ... ( 2 days ago by Bigbadben7)
Frazier 1 fight was scored 9-6, 8-6-1 and 11-4.
He won a total of 10 different rds between the 3 cards.
Everyone agrees that the last score card was bias against Ali.
In Frazier 2 he won across the board 8-4 and in Fight 3 he was ahead on all cards and Joe supposedly only won the middle rds again and couldn't see out of his left eye from ALi's right hand when he didn't come out for 15.
Norton had an akward style and Ali was pounding Foreman in his face while coming off the ropes every rd.
Going by how I saw ... ( 2 days ago by Aurelian147)
Going by how I saw the fight, not the scorecards. If judges can be biased against Ali they can also be biased towards him. Ali landed more, but Frazier more active & landed the bigger shots, almost KOing him in the 11th & 15th. The 15th round knockdown merely capped off his victory. I believe Ali deserved the 2nd fight, although 7-5 was more reasonable. But again, if the 11-4 judge can be biased against Ali, why can't those who scored it 8-4 to him? You can't have it both ways.
In the 3rd Ali ... ( 2 days ago by Aurelian147)
In the 3rd Ali merely outlasted Joe. Frazier left him "close to death" (in Ali's words). Then again, if Frazier had defied Eddie Futch and come out for the 15th, I've always wondered whether Ali would have been there to meet him. From what I've heard, he too was about to quit - he fainted in his corner shortly after the fight - but Futch beat him to it.
Awkward or not, Norton just had the right style for Ali. If he gives 70s Ali trouble, he also gives 60s Ali trouble.
Pounding Foreman's ... ( 2 days ago by Aurelian147)
Pounding Foreman's face whilst Foreman smashed his ribs up. Ali was pissing blood for weeks afterwards. He later admitted that Foreman had him out on his feet but didn't know it. He beat Foreman by toughing it out and soaking up tremendous punishment.
I'm not going say ... ( 2 days ago by Bigbadben7)
I'm not going say that Ali won the fight 1 regardless of the scores, even Ali admits that he lost.
Interestingly enough, Ali doesn't blame the loss on being out for 3 years, although he feels rust contributed some.
He blames the loss more on him not taking Joe serioulsy enough and not training hard enough and clowning too much.
Certainly any judge can be bias for or agasint ALi, but Ali was really hated by many in fight 1 and was just starting to be liked by the average person by Fight 2.
If what Ali says is ... ( 2 days ago by Bigbadben7)
If what Ali says is true, about not training hard enough for fight 1, which considering how he went to the ropes so much to rest could be true, then I can only wonder had he trained harder if he could have won becasue he did pretty well for one who didn't train as hard as he should and had beenout for so long.
Joe was a fighter ... ( 2 days ago by Nabucco20008)
Joe was a fighter or a punching bag?No chance, George was too much for Frazier.
Joe just was ... ( 2 days ago by Nabucco20008)
Joe just was champion of the world because Ali was 3 years and half away from the rings.First the champion of the world was the Department of Defense of the United States, after that the Government ofered the title to Frazier.
