What I like about Mr Hopkins is that, maybe, he is not the best puncher nor the fastest one but he always fight inside his abilities. He is like a rock.

  2. Feb 13, 2010 at 12:04 PM by makpak

r u serious? its been said a millionth time and im tired of saying it but bernard is old man and i actually think he won that fight but i see why judges gave it to Joe. Jones was finished along long time ago. Chris eubank? c'mon on man. thatt guy was anciant when Joe whoped him.

I agree with you in the main, you talk sense. I dont see Jones as a legitimate HW though, his main success was at MW. You are right about Jones' speed along with his power he could definitley hurt Calzaghe in his prime and would be favourite to win however Calzaghe would not be without hope, that workrate and speed would trouble anyone

  4. Jan 29, 2010 at 09:29 PM by sharplikeaknife

my opinion is that hopkins is was at the best of his carreer no offense to him when he was fighting calzaghe, but jones would have beat calzaghe because he's a whole lot heavier and would beat him down bad with left hooks, if he could go down against that weaker slower jones in the first round, i think he would lose bad against jones cuz he is a legitimate heavyweight and is faster than 90% of the welter weights. lets be honest calzaghe has no chance.

  5. Jan 7, 2010 at 05:20 AM by richandgaz

I put Jones as fovourite to beat Calzaghe in his prime. Calzaghe was so difficult to beat. Roy Jones said before fighting Calzaghe that he would be THE busiest fighter he has ever fought which gives anyone problems. Calzaghe might have nicked a points win but I agree Jones would be favourite to win that fight. Hopkins did a good job of cutting down Calzaghe's workrate but not quite good enough and I dont see how he could have done any better on a different day

  6. Jan 6, 2010 at 06:23 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

@richandgaz well it just seems that no one will acknowledge that if you took and put roy and joe 6 years ago and put them in the ring together roy would have beat him. alot of boxers relay on pure athleticism and jones was one of them but bernard relies purely on the basics of boxing hands up chin down. that is why he has gotten better i mean he lost a split decision it could have went both ways. and roy was best p4p ever

  7. Jan 6, 2010 at 02:49 PM by richandgaz

Did I say he was Jones? You wont find me badmouthing Roy Jones-I rate him very very highly. Best p4p of past 15 years in my opinion Calzaghe has beaten everyone put in front of him and has given even very good fighters a lot of trouble why do you think Hopkins would beat him a year or 2 further into his 40's?

  8. Jan 5, 2010 at 10:18 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

@richandgaz what made him unique that he fought jones, lacy out of their prime which jones dispatched in like 8 rounds calzaghe was good he was very protected im not racist but im glad to see a white guy excel in a sport dominated by blacks but he just wasnt the boxer jones was in his prime and i think that hopkins would beat calslappy now and i think he should have sealed his career with a fight against dawson he just isnt jones face it.

  9. Jan 5, 2010 at 08:32 AM by richandgaz

Calzaghe was unique. He had this speed and workrate that made him near impossible to beat on points. He had a great chin which no one managed to KO him and only a few floor him. He had flaws and a lot of poor opposition but Eubank, Kessler, Hopkins all tried and failed as did Jones, Lacy and Mitchell so he did fight some tests It wasnt always pretty but no one could find a way to beat calzaghe!

  10. Dec 29, 2009 at 09:09 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

@dan32113 it was an over the counter drug and wasnt illegal at the time it was an unknown substance

  11. Dec 29, 2009 at 09:08 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

@PERSYFILTH im not taking trying to take that much away from calzaghe he beat jones way out of prime i mean come on 2003 roy vs a 2003 calzaghe there would be no contest and you british(foriegners) think that calzaghe is all that he beat maybe 10 world champs and a handfull of commonwealth champs roy beat 20+ future or present world champs the legacy they leave isnt even comparable

  12. Dec 29, 2009 at 11:58 AM by PERSYFILTH

@futuremidwtchamp07 all yous americans do is build up your own boxers into legends and everyone falls for it apart from people who arnt american. you all live in your own stupid little world.

man please that sorry ass fight shit was boring as hell

  14. Nov 8, 2009 at 09:49 PM by tedpm206

Where do you get your information? The only time I heard of Jones' being questioned for steroids was when he beefed up to fight Ruiz. And that was an over the counter drug that contained a mixture of something illegal. My point being that it was ONCE not 4 times over 3 years. So where's your source?

  15. Oct 30, 2009 at 07:19 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

ok like i said 2003. the first guy in baseball to get caught doing roids was a small second baseman he said it was to help recover injuries and the drug roy took was completely legal at the time now its banned roy jones jr has fought and defeated 20 world champions compared to what like calzaghes 12 come on you cant even compare the two a prime roy would out class the best calzaghe i bet a rematch right now roy would win

  16. Oct 30, 2009 at 05:02 PM by dan32113

Roy Jones failed 4 doping tests for Testosterone Enanthate! he failed tests in 97, 98 & twice in 00. They also lost 7 of Roys samples?. When asked how this would effect Jones in a fight, Hall added "Its like he is taking a machine gun into a knife fight, his strength & speed would be too much for 2 men to overcome" source Anthony Hall, Nevada State Head of Doping...

  17. Oct 30, 2009 at 03:08 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

im sorry but the only fight that really stands out on calzaghes record is his win over bernard hopkins jeff lacy was nothing as rjj showed and yeah he took roids so it was an over the counter drug and it wasnt illegal at the time. anyone in without a biased opinion knows a 2001-2003 rjj would have destroyed joe calslappy. joe wouldnt even have beat james toney

  18. Oct 30, 2009 at 02:28 PM by dan32113

sorry but, Roy Jones failed 4 tests for steroids! the next fight he was clean of drugsTarver ko"d him in 2rds...

  19. Oct 29, 2009 at 07:52 PM by futuremidwtchamp07

i liked calzaghe because of benard telling him he will never get beat by a white guy and calzaghe is a great fighter but if you he would have meet roy jones jr in 2003 no one in their right mind can say he would have beat RJJ. RJJs atheletic ability is what made him great his speed power and dexterity thats why is isnt so great now but 6 years ago he would have beat calzaghe

  20. Oct 16, 2009 at 08:42 AM by TheChimeMan

wtf? hopkins was better than he had ever been !! his win over pavlik proved it.

  21. Sep 13, 2009 at 09:58 PM by mab999

Sorry. I dont rate anyone who could only manage a dodgy Split Decision againt a 43 year old, and a facing a shot to bits RJJ who was KO'd twice about 5 years ago

Calzaghe is a great fighter...If you look in history many fighters would throw pinches with an open glove on occassions, Ali did it, Roy Jones and Calzaghe.But..They were and are great fighters..they have beaten the best, and thats the bottom line..The judeges called it ..Speculation does not change the result..If you look at Calzaghe training on hand pads he hits very hard and fast.. Hopkins is deceptive, but clearly is agreat fighter.. all 3 are great fighters..

  24. Jul 25, 2009 at 07:28 PM by dan32113

Fuck He can go on till 80yrs old throwing 4 punches a rd, my nan can do that!

  25. Jul 25, 2009 at 02:28 PM by wdchr
