Ukraine: Boxer Nikolai Valuev promotes peace in Crimea

Russian boxer Nikolai Valuev arrived in Sevastopol to support a peaceful resolution to the political upheval in Crimea on Thursday. Valuev was accompanied by other Russian representatives, among them retired Soviet cosmonaut and the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova, and Irina Rodnina, a Russian figure skater.

They attended a meeting held near the City Council building, to discuss ways of resolving the political differences in the region.

The Crimean Parliament voted in favour of holding a referendum on expanding the powers of Crimea, planned for May 25, 2014.
