Having Coaches & Mentors Work!
Doesn't matter if it's Boxing, sports, life or business...you cannot have success on your own! Miguel Cotto defeats Shane Mosley in a Close Decision in a packed house at Madison Square Garden. The fight did not disappoint in any way as it was action packed throughout and provided some twists and
turns. Both fighters put on a beautifully violent performance where there were no losers, especially boxing. Sugar Shane started the fight out fast, opening with a pair of body shots of all things. This foreshadowed the interesting role reversal in the later rounds. The Puerto Rican Star quickly fo
und his mark with his jab and was able to touch Shane pretty consistently. Round Two to Round Five were increasing violent as Shane stood flat footed and stayed in the pocket winging single and double overhand rights off Cotto's brain. Cotto often found his mark with a punishing jab, solid hooks an
d a vicious straight right. Both fighters showed great chins and incredible resilience to stand up to the punishment. Round Six saw Mosley switch up the game plan and bounce on his toes with Cotto stalking. Even though Shane has way more experience in big fights, Cotto seemed way more poised. Both
fighters continued to land sizzling punches. Cotto's slightly harder, Mosley's more flash. As most fights go, the battle between Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto revolved around lots of comparisions. Mosley's speed vs. Cotto's power, Cotto's youth against Mosley's experience. Commentators wonder
ed if Mosley could weather the storm out of Puerto Rico that Cotto is known for: constant pressure in the form of body punches, stamina and ring generalship. Cotto is a fighter whose best performances are often manifested in the later rounds of fights -- he drives his opponents to the mat out of she
er will and constant slugging. Tonight, however, saw two boxers trading in expectations for surprising versatility. Mosley's flurry-based attacks gave way to caution and concentration on Cotto's body, and Cotto, late in the fight, began out-jabbing Mosley, an outcome not expected by many. The resul
t was a hard-earned unanimous decision for Cotto in a fight that many had as close as a draw going into the final round. "He really mixed it up and did a great job out there," Mosley said. "For a guy to be going in the ring like that and the way I was fight, and he kept fighting back, that's what
made it a great fight." It was close action the entire night, with many rounds up in the air as each fighter returned punch for punch and counter for counter. The final CompuBox numbers were an example of how close the fight was: Both fighters landed exactly 248 punches(see sidebar), a first accor
ding to CompuBox. "Mosley hit me with some real hard punches. However, I trained in camp with speed and movement and to face his kind of power," Cotto said in his post-fight interview. Cotto's ability to weather all of Mosley's attacks while still maintaining pressure drove Mosley around the ring e
arly in the fight, often times leaving the fighter little chance but to stall for time as the bullish Puerto Rican stalked him. It was Mosley though who started picking up the speed and applying pressure in the later rounds, resulting in the final moments of the fight going to either fighter as eac
h rallied for final points. Mosley began to reestablish a jab that had served him well earlier in the fight. The crowd, primarily pro-Cotto, began to change their tune, cheering for Mosley, as the back and forth action began to win some of the audience over. Cotto ultimately cleaned the cards, comi
ng out 115-113 (2x) and 116-113, to score another victory on top of an already spotless career.

I like cotto, but he wasn't going to knock out shane..sorry to disappoint you. And if you look at the last rounds of the fight, he was running away....He didn't destroy mosley. He just outpointed early in the fight and then he sticked and moved the last rounds all the way to victory. When margarito beats cintron and cotto beats gomez, we shall see if he's going to destroy margarito. Highly doubt it. It's gonna be a close one.

Well, nobody has KO'd Mosley and only Vernon Forrest has put him down in a VERY off night for Mosley. The decision victory elevated Cotto more than if he had KO'd Mosley, because it made us see that Miguel is not a one-dimensional slugger, but a great boxer-puncher who can make adjustments and beat different kinds of fighters.

He was so far ahead in points, there was no purpose in sparring with mosley in the latter rounds.Look at the scorecards going into the 10th round,it was over in the 9th round. Cotto will destroy Margarito with body punches before the 10th round. I will remember you and send you an email with a "I told you so message" since you doubt it. they fight july 26, so be expecting an email on july 27.Margarito has been defeated 5 times already, not Cotto. There is a game plan to beat Margarito,NOT COTTO

the best comment i ... ( 4 months ago by sarahradecki)
the best comment i have heard about Cotto is this...he is like a tidal wave-from a distance he doesnt look that dangerous-by the time he is close its too late.Dont underestimate him,he isn't invincible-no fighter is,but he will beat Margarito+he is the most exciting fighter about at the moment to watch+he is prepared to fight the best unlike Mayweather who will keep running.
OMG!!!! did u watch ... ( 3 months ago by boxinisdead)
OMG!!!! did u watch the same fight i did...No cotto was not goin to knock out shane reason is shane was too weary to really give cotto the opening....But i did see Mosley get completely outclassed...Cotto was a step ahead every single round save like 3 or even 2 come on dude stop the fuckin hate
I've been a huge ... ( 3 months ago by numnut79)
I've been a huge Mosley fan since the late 90's when he was the dominat 135lb'er in boxing. I picked him to outclass Cotto, but you're absolutely right. Mosley was the one who was outclassed and Cotto, IMO won the fight decisively. The guy really has improved tremendously since he jumped to 147. I think Margarito has a great shot at beating him though....that is one tough Mexican!
Cotto got beat down ... ( 3 months ago by itzyurnz)
Cotto got beat down, chased, hit hard, outboxed and the judges gave him the win. I understand Cotto fans but come on, this dude don't want to fight Sugar Shane again. Mayweather is to smart for Cotto. Margarito will slug with him and if Cotto doesnt knock him out he may not be as lucky with the judges.

Cotto barely beat ... ( 2 months ago by hannibalsreign)
Cotto barely beat Mosley..from hearing what Cotto said after the fight, one would have to say that Mosley beat Mosley. He was crushing him with that overhand right and just would not mount anymore of an attack than just one punch for a while.Cotto knew he had to just run and let time run out on someone he couldn't stop.Mosley is truly one of my favorites and I am sorry to see him reaching the end of his career...trying to grab 1 last win..end up embarassed like Sugar Ray staying too long.
Every fighter has ... ( 2 months ago by nastynas4eva)
Every fighter has their rise and fall. But no way shane is too old,he did his best but could not beat cotto as cotto is bette than him.just admit it,no doubt shane is an all time best but right now it is cotto's time

I guess Margarito isn't invincible either considering the 5 losses on his RECORD. keep on trying..........
Why u keep harping ... ( 1 month ago by mistaeric)
Why u keep harping on Margaritos 5 losses?? Moet fighters have that one guy they cant beat. Sugar Shane had Forrest..not Cotto has Margarito..they can fight 2 or 3 more times, and Margarito would win. Because he knows he can take all the punches Cotto dishes for 5 or 6 straight rounds, and then pour it on and whip his ass. Keep on trying....
cotto will win the ... ( 1 month ago by illbreakurface)
cotto will win the rematch cause hes gonna box margarito more instead of try 2 brawl like he did in the 1st fight and margarito didnt whoop cotto if it wouldve went 2 a decision cotto wouldve won but he got tired in the late rounds.if they have rematch cotto gonna dominate using his boxing skills more instead of trying 2 match punches with that hunk of steel that margarito calls a chin.
Now guy we both ... ( 1 month ago by mistaeric)
Now guy we both know cotto is a warrior..do you really want to watch him dance around and BOX Margarito all night long?? If he is a true champ,he will go back and train harder and NOT GET TIRED in the later rounds! If they do fight again,I want to see another slugfest if Cotto is man enough to do that!
Array ( 1 month ago by gdelaguila1)
Mistaeric:
Harping on Margaritos 5 loses??? Ali lost to Frazier in their first fight. Margarito is Cotto's Frazier. This chapter is not done, it is only beginning.
keep on trying??(didn't i always say that to you when I would always OWN you??) I guess you are a little bitch arent you??? ....
keep on trying.....
Why is it 2 posters ... ( 1 month ago by mistaeric)
Why is it 2 posters cant have a lil debate about boxing without all the juvenile name calling?? You said in your 1st post that cotto will beat him with bodyshots and its over by the 10th round, right? It sorta happen that way,BUT cotto lost. Then you said Margarito had 5 losses and Cotto none, that didn seem to make a difference in who won the bouit right? Cotto threw bombs ALL NIGHT long and could not keep Margarito from tracking his ass down and giving him a beating. Margarito TO BIG TO STRONG!
