My pal Mitch Markovitz is an artist who lives locally, but don't call him a "local artist." It's almost a kiss of death in that it traps him as an artist to only regional acclaim, and not acceptance on a grander scale. I think that's an important lesson for "local boxing" as well. An artist is an artist, just like a boxer is a boxer.
