Said it once, I'll say it again. Margarito is just looking to get paid. That's the reason he faces fighters with no chance of beating him when he fights. He knows if he losses, it's good-bye lottery ticket. I mean Mayweather fight.

No basis on fact,if Tony fights PBF,Floyd will probably be getting at least 75% of the money! Margarito just wants the exposure, and to prove he is the best by beating the man(Floyd). No chancing of beating,I guarantee at least 90% of people here said Cintron would KO him.

that makes it sound like it would automatically happen if ODLH wins which isn't a sure thing IMO

But you can't blame him for wanting 23 million dollars although that seems a bit high, either way he's gonna get a lot if it comes off

Just another reason to root for Mayorga, ODLH has had his time, I'd much rather see PBF-Mayorga than PBF-ODLH

I just had to answer this when I saw it.
The claim is Floyd was smart to not fight Margarito Yep he was because he would have gotten his punk ass KICKED!! It had nothing to do with Oscar Floyd was scared shitless of Margarito. He went ahead & fought Carlos Baldomir for far less $$ because he knew Baldy had no chance.

Knowing what we know now about Margarito loading his gloves we can say it would be a good thing if nobody had fought him.

What amazes me is that Floyd got out of his contract for under a million dollars. Why would Bob let him go so cheap?

I thought Floyd paid $8million to get out of it?

Actually, he fought Baldomir for $8,000,001... one penny more than he would have got fighting Margarito.

Margarito would have gotten shut out by Floyd, even with cement or whatever the fuck he had in his gloves. Too slow, too flat footed. Marg was a tough guy but he wasn't going to lay hands on 2006-2007 Floyd.

Also, people forget the back story on this one.

Floyd agreed to fight Margarito, but not in the summer because he had hurt his hand in April fighting Zab Judah and needed time to heal. Bob Arum said "no, I have an event already planned and a date already booked, so it has to be August 12th or it's nothing at all". Floyd said no, that wasn't enough time to heal his hand and get ready, so Arum booked Rahman/Oleg Maskaev rematch for that date instead, Marg signed on to fight Clottey and Floyd took the easy fight against Baldomir (who, despite being a very average fighter, was actually the #1 undisputed WW champion at the time by upsetting Zab). It was what it was. It was an easy fight that Baldomir had no chance of winning, and it allowed Floyd to make 8 million, slip into the #1 WW champ spot with very little effort, and bide his time waiting for the big De La Hoya fight.

... and this is why it's dangerous for him to cherry pick opponents. You stand for make a few million just to fight him, and you stand to make another few million IF you throw the fight.

Here's the quote from the article:

"Mayweather's announcement the other day that he had bought his way out of his contract with promoter Bob Arum for three-quarters of a million caused a lot of raised eyebrows and "I told you sos.""
