Earliest I found was Leon Spinks after 8 fights

Depends what you mean by world title:

Samson Dutch Boy Gym won a world title in 4 fights

Pete Rademacher fought for the undisputed world heavyweight championship in his first fight against Floyd Patterson.

He didn't win (but did knock Floys down in the 2nd), but that would have been an impressive record to hold.

Getting technical John L walked into his bout with James J Corbett, billed as Queensberry Rules World's Heavyweight Champion. A title he was given because he was unbeaten London Rules World's Heavyweight Champ.

So you could say Sullivan with no fights is pretty hard to beat.

Wouldn't the same reasoning also apply to Larry Holmes, when he was given the IBF Heavyweight belt as its inaugural holder?

Except for the fact Holmes had, had 44 fights before being given the title!

Sullivan had never had a fight under Queensberry Rules prior to Corbett.

The victories over Pascau, Soto and Carbajal (Cruz), showed he had real potential.

But he never met an absolute top notch opponent to show how good he really was.

Nice to see Weir get a mention. This Island does not produce many world title holders, even fewer two weight world title holders.

Weir has to possibly the least recoginzed WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO champion we have ever had...

One thing with the Thais is that a lot of then are crossovers from Muay Thai and have had alot of fights by the time they have their first pure boxing bout. Just a point.

Jeff Fenech won the IBF bantam title after only 6 fights , beating Satoshi Shingaki.
