    Default "Irish" Micky Ward

I just wanted to post this cuz I hear so much about the Gatti/Ward saga and about how Gatti is a "blood and guts" warrior but most of the conversation is leaned towards Arturo. Micky Ward over the years fought the likes of Judah, Leija, Veader, and Gatti. I think if Ward had gotten better training early on he could have been and true contender and not a journeyman as it turned out. I think if Gatti and Ward were the same age Ward schools Gatti 2 out of 3. Ward was 7 years older for god sakes. I wish I could see that fight with both of them @ the age of 28. Ward brought a much needed breath of fresh air into the sport. Gatti and him were made for each other like no other fighters ever have been

Right! Everyone forgets he was 38 in the last fight and gave a 31 year old Gatti a run as he always did

Regardless of nationality he did an awesome job in the trilogy....it was entertaining...

Indeed, Ward was old in the final Gatti fight and still he took it to the limits...

Most definatly if Micky spent more time with better trainers and handlers he would have gone much further in the sport....He is one of my favorite non World Champions of all time behind Quarry

He was a true warrior in the ring and had a great chin. Gatti was the onl guy to really hurt him in the second fight. If he didnt cut against Phillips and Leija his career may have turned out differently...but im glad it didnt because we got to see life brought into a sport that was a little laking at the time with the trilogy. He is as nice a guy as you will ever meet. Humble and polite and hard working. Just an all around super lad. I know him and watched him fight as an amature in Lowell. I'll never, ever forget his ko of Alfoso Sanchez on the Whittaker-ODL under card. Merchnat (ugh) who had not done his reaerch on Ward was calling him a bum all night until he iced Sanchez with one brutal left hok to the body in the 7th...his signature punch. That shut the HBO team up real fast.

Yeah that was an odd Ward fight. Micky was running around and not throwing punches for a while, very out of character for him, then he nailed Sanchez with a perfect body shot and ended the fight. Larry Merchant always puts his foot in his mouth, he's an ass clown, like just lately he about 1 min b4 B-hop dropped Tarver, he goes "Wake me up when something happens...". He's a critical lil bitch, who doesn't realize he has a fukin dream job. Any way Ward was a good contender with great heart, but was never quite up there with the world champions.
