Default MORALES A GREATER FIGHTER THAN BARRERA? (yes imo)

    http://ringtalk.com/index.php?action...ments=1&id=860

THE PINOY” LOOKS TO START TROUBLE

San Francisco, CA-While it’s perfectly clear that Marco Antonio Barrera is a better fighter than Erik Morales (Barrera has a 2-1 advantage facing Morales), is it possible that Erik Morales has had a greater career than his Mexican rival? At 122, Morales has the edge on Barrera because of a victory over Barrera in their epic battle. Barrera’s fight against Kennedy McKinney was his only marquee win at 122. Barrera also lost twice to Junior Jones, who got knocked out by Morales. When both fighters moved up to featherweight, Barrera dominated the division, beating Prince Naseem Hamed and Erik Morales. However, Barrera was ran out the ring against Manny Pacquiao, while Morales moved up to 130lbs to unify the division.

    THERE'S CERTAINLY ROOM FOR ARGUMENT

Even at featherweight, Morales posted a victory over Paulie Ayala, who hadn’t lost in years. After getting stopped by Pacquiao, Barrera became the first man to knock out Ayala, though Paulie looked like a shot fighter. Barrera is undefeated at 130lbs, beating Morales, convincingly, for a second time. However, Morales’ wins over Pacquiao, Carlos Hernandez, and Jesus Chavez were still greater than Barrera’s wins from Rocky Juarez and Robbie Peden. While I think Barrera beats Morales more times than not, "El Terrible’s" willingness to fight anyone at the peak of their careers (as evidenced by his decision to fight Pacquiao without a tune-up) may prove to be the greater boxing career when it’s all said and done.

Pooorly written article as there are too many fights and examples missing but I like the gist of it,I truly believe that EM has had a greater career than MAb,compare the resumes, what do you think?

    On that note.

Who do you think will be looked as the greater fighter.

    De La Hoya or Trinidad?

I love to watch both Barrera and Morales...both are great fighters. But for me...Barrera is the better boxer. Marco is just a smart fighter in the ring....he has been able to adapt and evolve over the years...he can fight technically and also brawl...and many times do both in the same fight. Eric is just to easily lured into a brawl. Morales often just does not utilize all of his tools and his pride makes him fight stupid sometimes (while that's entertaining for us fans, it's not strategically smart). The writer also says how Eric is always willing to go to war with the best....but in all honesty...as much I respect that...all the wars could have shortened his career. Barrera just knows how to pace himself better...both in a fight....and in his career. For me personally, their trilogy are my favorite fights to watch. As for Oscar and Felix....not even close for me. Oscar is the far more superior boxer...more multi-dimensional...while Felix relied primarily on his power.

I definetly think Morales has a better resume, and I think he is a slightly better fighter as well... I really don't like the way the article opens up with

"While it’s perfectly clear that Marco Antonio Barrera is a better fighter than Erik Morales (Barrera has a 2-1 advantage facing Morales)"....... So by that measure is it perfectly clear that Junior Jones is a better fighter then Barerra?? Stupid if you ask me, MOrales won the first, MAB won the 2nd, and the third by a hair but MOrales was close to stopping him in the last round. I would give a very slight edge to MOrales, I think he has better wins and against anyone besides Barerra, he never appeared a lesser fighter then Marco imo... Going by any common opponents they have MOrales has a huge edge... Look how badly Pac destroyed Barerra, and then Erik beat him... he KOed Junior Jones, dominated Ayala first, plus I think Jesus Chavez and In Jin Chi were both stellar and dangerous opponents who were better then anyone Barerra has defeated at 130 besides Morales. . Actually In Jin chi was probably a feather, but still.

I thought that Morales won the second fight.

This is one of those debates that we can argue until we are blue in the face. As far as common opponents...i think Junior Jones was just one of those fighters that was a stylistic problem for Marco. As for Manny, i will hold judgment on that one until a rematch with Marco. I just feel Marco is a more complete fighter. Barrera didn't fight Chavez and Chi so that's a mute point (though I personally feel he could have beaten both). Both Marco and Eric are great fighters....I just think Marco is the better all around fighter.

I'd have to go with EM, I still think he is the best fighter out there if he just boxes and picks his spot and go to war at the right time(Not everytime he is hit with something solid). MAB is a master boxer no question but given Erik's physical advantages he'll beat Barrera to the punch.

i think that Morales is the greater fighter just for the fact that he fought better opposition more constantly than MAB, both have even amount of quality opponants, but Morales fought against them more frequently

Both amazing fighters and warriors....Its was MAB's ring intellegence that makes him the greater fighter but only just. They are both GOAT's and HOF definates.

Its definately gota be Barrera . Not only has he won the trilogy but I think hes had teh better career and hes been able to adapt his style unlike Morales . Plus Eriks had a bad finish to his career but Barreras looking as dominanat as ever

CC P4P,you nailed it bro. MAB has the longevity, the adaptability but I don't think EM gets the credit he deserves. He HAS fought better opposition,I'll write down the fighters if you want, has beat most of the better names on MAB's resume before/more convincingly than MAB and ok,he lost their trilogy but you could score that in soooooo many different ways! I had the first to MAB,second to Morales and the last 1 a draw. It's not just about the greater fighter,I think resume is VERY VERY important too and people, don't forget,Morales is an AWESOME boxer too,he has just looked ragged in the last couple of years(and still won),he is very very skilled, can counter, lead, backfoot, jab, bodywork, combos, lateral movement, head movement etc etc.

    Agreed man.

Also the great CARLOS FAMOSO HERNANDEZ!!!!!!!

Hernandez handled Champion Steve Forbes, who by the way, in his old age WAS ABLE to compete at a MUCH HIGHER WEIGHT CLASS and make it to the finals of THE CONTENDER. Steve took on all those young guns and made it with flurries, ring generalship, and heart. (Actually I thought Steve won the whole thing, but it was no robbery.)

I saw that fight Forbes vs Hernandez on tv, and me, being a total novice to boxing, thought Forbes wasn't good. But what I didn't realize was that Hernandez was one TOUGH MUTHERF*CKER!!!!! umm .... That's an understatement. He was a World Class Boxer. There, that's better. Famoso trained his ass off for that fight and he put all his heart into the fight.

I drove all the way to Vegas MGM Grand(many hours), that was my first attendance at a big fight and the first time I watched Erik Morales live. I knew Famoso would bring it. It was a great fight and night. And that fight was at 130lbs.

After the fight, I also saw Carlos' beautiful wife crying. She was hugging fans as she walked out of the arena.
