hey folks. I'm confused as to how to execute push ups correctly. I do them going all the way down to about an inch beetween my chest and the floor. My trainers and the other experienced boxers, thai boxers, and grapplers tend to do them very fast and they don't go low on the push up like I do. They don't seem like full push ups and almost seem like cheating, yet these guys have muscular chests. Is there a reason they do these push ups like this?

If you want to work your full Range Of Motion then the way your doing them is "the correct way"
Yes what they are doing is a slight cheat, probably a habit from years of having to keep up with class doing pushups etc. They still have muscly chests because they are still working there chests....to a point.
Heres an example. if you can do 50 of your pushups Max, and they can do 50 of there pushups max, youd have the better chest.
That clear everything up?

The explosiveness of the movement has an affect aswell.

20 clap press ups where you go 2-3 inches off the floor are better than 20 press ups where you go an inch off the floor...

do them with your feet about 12 inches off the ground......also..you can take an elastic band and wrap it around you and do pushups that way as well......it will smoke you fast!!!

You trying to say that I don't wipe well? :P

IMO press ups aren't 'proper' unless your hands are level with your head and your feet are atleast together... having a wide stance takes all the weight off the muscle groups you are working...

I only use one leg

This is nice to incorporate into your training

I occasionally do plyogaters.

I do them over a medicine ball, you always have one hand on the medicine ball and switch them over.

You only got left/right once obviously

But ladies press ups are ok too though right :P

ive seen other videos of that guy doing pads and some other made-up excercises with a kid who i think was 14. it was real bad. stay away from trainers like this.
