Default Will Evander Holyfield Regain a portion of the heavyweight title?

I know this topic has probably been discussed a lot of times. If you are tired of seeing stuff about Evander Holyfield then simply don't respond or even read this post. However if you are a fan of his and think he might have something left. Then please post your opoinions and explain what you think he might be able to accomplish and how he might do it. And if you once were a fan of Evander's and think he should step down and retire. Then explain why you think he should give it up. Thanks

Maybe against Maskaev....otherwise all bets off.

Not easy for me to criticize my former hero...

but I never got over the poor losses to Lewis, Ruiz, Toney, Donald.

We should give him an equal chance as we do the rest of the conteders . You are only as good as your last performance and Evander was great albeit against a journeyman .

But the positives are , he was bouncing , he was slowing and upping his workrate accordingly . He was positioning himself for counters , he was anticiapting his oppoennts moves and unloading combos - all things that have been missing in his recent bouts . Now it could be that his story of injuries is true . Im not suggesting he can recapture the form that beat Tyson but from what I saw he rolled the clock back afew years in his last fight and judging by the porr qulaity of the divison at the present time , it would be an over exageration to suggest he can recapture a title

I wish him the best but hopes he steers clear of Wvladimir Klitschko

ok i dont want to bag holy to much but cmon he dosnt know when to call it quits does he i mean his hw reign was short lived anyway ,he took advantage of douglas fluke in tokyo then had great trilogy with bow losing and regaining the title for a 2nd time then he clinched and headbutted his way to victory against tyson for third title and then beat a tomato can who calls himself the quit man and has the nerve to call himself 4 time hw champ surpassing ali,pleasssseeeee!!!!!.......now he wants to take advantage of the weakest hw division we've ever seen and call himself 5 time world champ....what a fuckin joke!!!he was probably imo the best cruiser weight in history but as a heavy he never dominated like tyson or dempsey and ali or even holmes for that matter....so to answer ur question i dont think he can win a title but with the heavies today i guess its possible !! peace!!
ps i did enjoy bow trilogy!!!

i'm a real big fan of holy's, i was just watching his first fight with bowe again only last night and even though he was 30 at the time he moved and boxwd very well now that was 14 years ago, i feel he should have stayed retired, i dont want to see him take anymore punishment, i honestly think no matter who he fights for the world title he'll take to many shots. people talk about geogre foremen winning the title at 45, the diffence is foremens a huge man with a one punch ko and has tons of strengh with it so youinger guys would stay of him in fear he'd land a haymaker but thats not the case with evander..............i'd love toi see him as world champ again but i'd much rather remember what a great warrior he was rather then once again watch guys who couldn't lace his gloves beat him like ruiz, donald and a few others

although evander looked good against bates the jury is still out in my opinion. I agree that his chance has got to come quick for a title. I think oquendo is gonna be a tough one for him though. if he gets past him i give him a shot against maskaev. i think valuev is too big and is underrated in the jab department and would prob win a decision. as for wlad holyfield would need to test the chin early but i think would ultimately lose.

He did look good last time out, but he was really up against little more than a punching bag who was out for one big paycheck. Bates' main ambition for that fight was not to lose in the first round, and he had the courage to achieve that, just.
I expect Evander will have picked the right man in his boxing rehabilitation, with Oquendo being decent enough to put up a challenge, but will be a fairly easy benchmark for the Holyfield team in the end. I think we'll have a much better idea of what lies in Holyfield's future after this fight, and especially when we see his performance. I don't think he'll hav enough to win one of the belts, but then again, he's shocked people before....

I agree, I'm a big fan myself and he has absolutely nothing to prove. I wanted him to retire after the fight with Donald, but I can sort of see his point why he doesn't want to be told he should stop. This should definitely be his last chance though, one more beating and he should be stopped for his own safety.

Not being funny but how can you tell whether a fighter is clenching his fists or not?

Sure Evander "could" but will he? He looked like he was holding his breath to throw combinations in his last fight and like he needed to set his arms in order to do it, he can't afford that.

Evander will WHUP Fres Oquendo....Fres looked horrid in his last fight and I am sure he's not preparing well for this one either.

Holyfield was at the Valuev-Barrett fight and honestly I think that a title fight with Valuev seems a safe bet.

#1 Don King will prosper just by MAKING the fight
#2 Valuev is not the best defensive fighter and he lets guys get on the inside
#3 Evander is focused and determined to win a title

I'm not sure he wins that fight but I can see it being made because Valuev needs to add more names on his record and Holyfield is the best name out there who he can beat
