    Default Boxing today!

I was thinking about this the other day right...
where is boxing really going at the moment?
i mean everybody has theyr favourite era and thinks theyr favourite is the best, me i feel that the nineties to early millenium has been the best for most things that i like.
but for instance in boxing, whats going on now? i mean ive realised all my favourite boxers are coming to the end of theyr careers, de la hoya maybe has one or two fights left, barrera and morales dont have a great deal left, tito has been retired for a while and should stay retired. jones is not the man he used to be and needs a big win to go out on, i doubt bernard will get the fight with oleg and if he does that will likely be his last just as jones only had the one fight at heavyweight, other great fighters that werent my particular favourites but were solid fighters and entertaining to watch like gatti and ward are gone.
and others like hatton and floyd to some extent have said they maybe only plan on haveing 5 or 6 more fights then calling it a day whilst undefeated?
and ive found myself looking all over the place for prospects to follow, or champs that are still young?
    here are a few..
    cotto
    malignaggi
    taylor
williams would be a prospect if he had only had say 15 fights, but for around the 30 mark hes not as good as i feel he should be and hes not fought the competition he should have.
others like jcc jr and khan dont impress me,
and although im pretty impressed by a few cats from the really light divisions like bautista etc..
ive never been as big a fan of these divisions as i am the others.
and i find myself thinking whats going on with boxing, the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions arent looking great.
its only some fighters around the middle divisions that are fighting eachother and the top competition they should be, lightwieght isnt all that special at the moment, super feather is always good because of fighters like barrera, morales and pacman but they wont be around forever...
and ive lost interest in the featherwieght division?

how does everyone else feel about this? when was your favourite era? do you think its slipping away? or is it still good for you guys? im not saying i dont still love to watch boxing its just sort of in limbo at the moment...
    peace

oh and by the way i am aware this topic sort of contradicts my other thread about how much i am looking forward to some good fights in the next three or four months and im sure there will be some good fights next year....
but it is more of a about time thing going on! alot of big names have only fought once so far this year and
i need my fix of action, even though alot of fights have looked good on paper a few have dispointed over the last year or two also!
    so yeh mixed emotions

but boxing isnt like it was, all the fighters like tito oscar barrera morales hopkins toney are the ones that took all comers and fought the best. the only people i can think of that truely take on all comers now is toney, jermaine taylor and winky wright... theres still some of the above but theyr all close to the end.. jermain has a fair time left, winky also.. and i think toney will be fighting till his death.. he just cant stop fighting... i think he'll end up like duran.. fighting farrrrr past his prime. lol
the matches are there, but will they be made?

    CC BodyHead.
I have been thinking the same thing.
I have been following Cotto for sometime now and I think he has the goods.
I am still looking for that Cinderella story in Sergio Mora.
Most of the great fighters I have been following are on their way out or at least so it seems. Soon we shall be watching shadows of these great fighters you mentioned in the ring against young prospects. That is really going to be sad to watch

yeh i cant imagine my favourite fighters of the present and last ten years ever bieng replaced in my mind..
could it be almost like an entire new era? and how will this era look to boxing fans of the future?
because i think of how there was the four greats in the eighties leonard,hagler,herans,duran...
and i think what matches that during the last ten years.. i know there are single fighters and stuff that do easily but i guess like the great bhop says.. i believe i will get my respect when i am gone, and lots of people i know having looked back on his career and having never really been a favourite of theyrs have admitted yeh he was a reall tough cookie and a great guy...
shall we make a list of the greats of our era and the moments that will be remembered... man i know theres loads!!
