Ross Puritty signs to fight David Tua on Nov. 3 at Roseland

New York, Oct. 24—Gotham Boxing has signed veteran heavyweight puncher Ross Puritty to face David Tua in the 10-round main event at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Friday night, November 3 on the “Marathon Extravaganza” fight card presented by Gotham Boxing and DRL Promotions.

The event is sponsored by Everlast Nutrition, makers of nutrition and beverage products under the famous Everlast brand name. Every person in attendance to the November 3rd event will receive a complementary ice cold Everlast Energy Drink courtesy of Everlast Nutrition.

Puritty (30-19-3, 27 KO’s), the dangerous knockout artist from Tulsa, OK, earned the biggest victory of his career on December 5, 1998, when he KO’d present heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitshcko on his home turf in Kiev, Ukraine.

Roseland is located at West 52nd Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue.

Tua, the Samoan slugger from South Aukland, New Zealand, has won three straight since returning to the ring wars after two full years of inactivity, and looks to continue the streak on his quest to return to prominence in the heavyweight division.

Tua has a glittering ring record of 45-3-1, and displayed his powerful knockout punch in 39 of those victories. He has defeated the likes of former champions Hassim Rahman, Michael Moorer, and John Ruiz, and current WBC champion Oleg Maskaev during his career.

What is Tua doing? Is there a plan? It just seems pointless, he's not going anywhere, the level of opposition isn't moving up, just seems like he's biding his time hoping he'll get a title shot. Well it worked for Briggs, but at least Briggs was fighting a lot. I know its a replacement but its a replacement for Kelvin Davis, who was a good cruiserweight, not even really a heavyweight.

He needs to fight someone worth fighting. Fight somebody like Minto or something! Purrity is probably lower ranked then the guy before him

I aint a Tua fan...but I think that many aren't thinking back, here.

He's been out of the ring for quite some time & Purity is actually a bigger test than his last three fighters. Purity hasn't fought in about a year & he's lost his last two outtings.

Tua hasn't fought anyone worth mention in the last 3 years...not since Moorer.

Might end up being even ground...naaaaaaaaaaah!

    Tua's just wasting time.

If he is to do this then it needs to be the last tune up before taking on someone in the top 10....if he can just get his attitude right then he has a shot against either of these champs....

LOL at Bowe. Let's face it, Tua's best chance was years ago versus Lewis and he got caught waiting and waiting to throw the big punch. Then again fighting injured sure didn't help. I think some of you are right. He is just keeping busy fighting no-names and old names just hoping to get a title shot rather than earn one. Then again what do you really need to do to earn a shot when there are 4 champions??

idk why tua is doing this. there dosnet seem to make any sense.

interesting thought: if purrity wins, and he beats some other decent fighters, could wlad possibly get to finaly avenge one of his defeats?

Tua has been doing this for awhile. His people do not want real challenges. He fights guys with losing records or close to it and never fights a top guy to get him the title shot. I am not sure why he lacks confidence. Of all the top guy around he has the power to knock even contenders out, but something is lacking in the confidence of someone in his corner. Who knows who it is who signs him to fight cruiserweights and has beens. The Kelvin fight was ridiculous. Tua was just too strong. I am glad they saw the light and got out of that fight. Tua should be ashamed of himself for wanting easy fights.

New York, Oct. 30—Due to an injury to Ross Puritty, Gotham Boxing has signed heavyweight Abraham “The African Assassin” Okine as the replacement face David Tua in the main event this week at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Friday night, November 3 on “Marathon Extravaganza” fight card presented by Gotham Boxing and DRL Promotions, it was announced today.

Puritty sustained a severe cut on his forehead last week in final preparations, so was unable to participate in the contest.

The event is sponsored by Everlast Nutrition, makers of nutrition and beverage products under the famous Everlast brand name. Every person in attendance to the November 3rd event will receive a complementary ice cold Everlast Energy Drink courtesy of Everlast Nutrition.

Okine (14-2, 8 KO’s), a native of Accra, Ghana, which has produced the likes of former champions Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey, now fights out of Pittsburgh, PA. The 6-2 heavyweight had reeled off 14 straight wins without defeat before two recent setbacks to Shannon Briggs and Timo Hoffmann.

He has defeated the likes of former champions Hassim Rahman, Michael Moorer, and John Ruiz, and current WBC champion Oleg Maskaev during his career.

exactly....this fight proves nothing...unless Tua just wants to knock off a little rust then throw his hat in the mix....
It feels good to be back home.
