    Default Cotto-Quintana: Picks

    Who wins and why?

I like Quintana, good jab, good footwork, solid puncher. His arm placement worries me a bit, most of the time he uses a fairly high guard, but unlike Winky and some other guys who keep their elbows tucked to their body, Quintana's are out in front, not tucked, his body looks a bit open. But he does move fairly well which could negate some of Cotto's body punching.

I was picking Quintana for awhile, think for now I'm gonna go with Cotto coming on late, breaking him down and winning a decision. Think it will be a good fight though, Cotto might have to get off the floor to do it.

Tough though cause I don't know what Cotto will look like as a 147 pounder and I do like Quintana.

Cotto is going to put a beat down on Quintana. Cotto's got a body attack that Julio never tried and he leaves himself open in the body. Cotto is going to wear him down and stop him somewhere in the mid rounds

Both undefeated, but Cotto seems to have had the tougher road. I pick Cotto by KO late.

Quintana is a good solid fighter, Cotto will have some problems in this fight. I see it very close Cotto wins a SD

This is a great fight. I definitely have not seen enough of Quintana to make a very educated pick here, but I'm going to say Cotto by late stoppage (somewhere in rounds 9-11). If that doesn't happen though, my second pick is Quintana on points--I see him outboxing Cotto no matter what; it's just a question of how much Cotto can break him down with bodywork to prep him for a KO later. If that doesn't happen, I think Cotto loses.

Here's some clips of Cotto's sparring,

This should be a belter, really looking forward to it. Carnt wait to see how Cotto fairs at 147. I think Cotto will just have too much for him, and win late on. Quite surprised Arum took this fight to be honest.
Apparently Cotto's training is ran by Velocity, the same who are currently looking after Morales.

As a Puerto Rican, I don't know who to root for in this one. Those of you who have never seen Quintana should not base your predictions on Quintana's opposition. All you need to do is see his fight with Julio and that will tell you every thing you need to know about his chances against Cotto. Unlike Paulie, Quintana utilizes the ring very, very, well. He can also take a punch very, very well. He took some shots from Julio, who has fought at 154 and is known for his power. Quintana is always on the move, has great defensive skills and can either counter punch or become the agressor. He is a real pro and has ring savvy. Against Julio, I don't think I saw any clinches or a time when Quintana's back touched the ropes. The guy is really, really good. As for Cotto, he's going to have to rely on those boxing skills he had that have disappeared in recent fights. He can't come in there thinking he's going to out gun Quintana. Quintana is more accurate and has power. Cotto will be Quintana's most experienced opponent. I would predict a late round stoppage by Cotto, but I must say that if Cotto defeats Quintana, he has a great chance against Mayweather, because Quintana is a similar type of fighter in terms of ring savvy, skills, defense etc (remember, similar, not exactly the same). I will be more impressed if Cotto beats Quintana than if Quintana beats Cotto.

This fight is all about the rise and fall of one or the other, the only winner I can pick for sure is boxing and the fans! There are so many variables, ways of looking at it, pros and cons for either guy, I'm not gonna starty cos it'd take me all day. One things for sure, we'll know how good cotto really is on dec. 4th!
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!

Read Ricans post right above you... I agree with him I think Quintana is better than Paulie and it's not as simple as you make it.

I have heard that the Puerto Ricans are torn as to who they want to win. Boxing is a close-knit sport on the island and there is such proudness in the nationality. It will be hard for many to cheer for either boxer during the fight.
I will be pulling for Quintana. I have seen both boxers live and have been very impressed. Quintana is lacking some experience in the big fights, but he is very slick and I can see him outboxing Cotto.

Its a tough won to call but I think Cottos experience with diffrent styles and tough situations, will be able to adjut if he needs to and come out victorious.

I hope that Cotto can adjust to Quintana's Level of savvy.

I say this becuase i want him to win.

But heres my problem.... Pretty simple really.

I can see Quin outboxing Cotto, possibly hurting him on numerous occasions...
However i cant see Cotto hurting Quin

Like Oumafan said though, who knows what Cotto will be like at 147?
