Mayweather makes splash at final presser!

“Pretty Risky” turned pretty wet as Pound-for-Pound King “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (36-0, 24 KOs) splashed the Carlos Baldomir camp with water in a retaliatory act at today’s final media conference at the Mandalay Bay Resort-Casino in Las Vegas for their upcoming welterweight championship bout on Saturday night.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s advisor, took the podium to say: “Floyd has said that Baldomir has two options to go out on his face or on his a**. Well, there is a third way he can go out.” Just then a member of Mayweather’s camp waived the white flag insinuating that Baldomir may just quit. Insulted by the theatrics a fuming Javier Zapata, Baldomir’s trainer, took his glass of water and threw it at Ellerbe. In retaliation Mayweather splashed Zapata and the Baldomir camp with his glass of water. Before the fighters could move at each other calmer heads prevailed and order was restored.

    CC, for the read Wacks

This is an intriguing bout. Baldomir is indeed on a roll, and PBF is moving into territories unknown. He is facing his first natural welterweight. PBF swamps Baldomir in terms of natural skills, but Baldy is such a headstrong (every pun intended!) son of a gun!

Floyd should work a decision, but if Baldomir catches him early and can wobble him...we have a classic on our hands!!!

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s advisor, took the podium to say: “Floyd has said that Baldomir has two options to go out on his face or on his ass.

In a gesture of good faith, Mayweather apologized to the Baldomir camp and shook hands with both Baldomir and Zapata saying, “I apologize for throwing the water. It is just emotions running high.”

Before the water incident, Baldomir took the stage to address the media. “I do not think that Mayweather can knock me out. He can knock out a 130-pounder, a 135-pounder, a 140-pounder. But he can not do me damage.” Baldomir continued, “In three more days we will see who is stronger and who hits harder. We will see on Saturday who has bigger huevos, who has bigger balls.”

Adding to the flames of controversy, Ellerbe belittled Baldomir’s confidence when he stated, “Yesterday he made the mistake of betting $25,000 on himself. He would have been better off giving the money to a bum on the street.”

Scott Woodworth of Sycuan Ringside promotions reminded the media that Baldomir went into Zab Judah’s and Arturo Gatti’s hometowns recently capturing victory despite being the underdog. And now his fighter is in Mayweather’s adopted hometown fully expecting to keep his Cinderella story alive with another victory.

Baldomir, lineal champ and WBC beltholder, wrested the crown from Zab Judah with a unanimous decision in January in New York, then, six months later, slaughtered Arturo Gatti in nine rounds in New Jersey. Similarly, the undefeated Mayweather has knocked out Gatti and won a unanimous decision victory over Judah.

Despite being the defending champion for this bout, Baldomir opened as an 8-to-1 underdog. He has since closed the ranks. Nevertheless Mayweather is still the heavy favorite at 5-to-1.

Also on Saturday night’s card, newly crowned IBF featherweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (19-1-1, 12KOs) will defend his title for the first time against number one ranked contender Orlando Salido (27-9-2, 18KOs).

The WBO number one ranked welterweight contender Paul "The Punisher" Williams (31-0, 23 KOs) will try to keep his unblemished record in tact when he faces Jacy Kuhn (15-2-2, 10 KOs) in a special 10-round bout. Williams, who has been compared to Tommy Hearns, is now the mandatory challenger for WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito.

    s back to ya's both.

What slipped me about Baldo was the hometown deal.

Totally missed the fact that he went to both Gatti's & Judah's homers & stomped their asses on their own stomping grounds.

Impressive...now let's see if he can carry it over to Floyd.

Floyd's way outside of his natural weight class IWO.

If anything kills Floyd...it will be that.

Problem I have is that everyone rips into him afterwards if he loses...if he wins...everyone dismantles Baldo & dismisses him as a fluke.

    Crying fwockin shame.

I agree completely about the weight issue, and that is why Baldy does have that chance....Baldomir is no pug, he is a stubborn mule....

Maybe Floyd will dominate with smart boxing, but maybe like with Hatton and Collazo, just maybe, Floyd could be in for a rough night....

Makes it a most interesting bout to say the least!!!

Yes floyd is in with his first true Welter, if he wins, he shows that his skill can outdo pure size, if he loses, depending on how, say he gets outpointed then that would show him up a bit that someone with as many losses as Gatti and old with it can beat the supposed number 1 pound for pound fighter, if he gets knocked out, well he shouldnt even get caught by someone with as many losses and as old and as slow as Baldomir.

No its not a crying shame, Floyd has picked and chosen his latest handfull of opponents when all advatages seem in his favour, his last to fights before this were coming back off big losses and now, OK Baldomir has the linear belt but in truth this match is viewed by many here as a mismatch in Floyds favour, so if he loses, its not a shame, its deserved

hmm PPV mustn't be doing great

I hope Baldomir can do something to make this fight a spectacle/competitive (Mayweather's awesome skills aside) but he's just too SLOW.... He's never gonna hit Floyd.

Oh screw Floyd, Wacko. People always do that, been doin it to fighters for years, Jones got a lot of that "well so and so was too inexpierenced" or "So and so was weight drained" or "so and so was old". It happens. Also how gay is the water throwing incident? PBF can't even be original he has to rip off James Toney?! I theres bout a 90% chance Floyd will outbox Baldomir and win a UD. Baldomir is pretty slow and predictable, and despite the Gatti TKO, does not have a whole lot of power. On the plus side for Baldomir, he is the biggest man Floyd has ever faced, has shown a good chin, and some definite guts. I don't really like either guy too much, Floyd's a lil bitch, and Baldomir has a forced personality, caught an out of shape Judah on the right night, and isn't all that fun to watch.

Oh shut up & think before you post...or atleast read the article.

Floyd threw the water BACK in Baldo's man's face. The shit started from Baldo's side. Before you go poppin off at the mouth like a child...have all the facts...they're right there in front of your face.

    Get mad Hulk.

You can critique both fighters all you want...but in the end...they've both stepped up & faced the odds & came out on top...more than you can say for that pickle head that you blow hard about all the time.

this is one of those fights that can really be labled as a MUST SEE!!!! The hype is warranted IMO....This will tell us alot about PBF...if he wins his legacy and GREATNESS will live on....if he loses...well, he was a really really good fighter........
It feels good to be back home.

i love PBF, but splashing with water is pretty gay unless it involves a dime pieces in a white t-shirt.
