LOL, that's crazy.. The only reason he has made a ripple at welterweight is because he's freaking huge for 147 and can take just about anyones best shot.. At 154 or 160 he would be absolutely nothing.. I seriously doubt you are a boxing coach, or at least a good one, with your comments in this thread... Baldomir won 5 rounds against Floyd, he would be "awesome" at 154 or 160?? WHY.. What attributes do you think would serve him so well at a higher weight.. He does absolutely nothing impressivly he is just big and strong for a welter. At 154, let alone 160, he wouldn't even be able to take punishment which is all he's good at.
Well,
here is the way I see it....
There are two bad ass weightg classe that you need to have speed and power in in the sport of boxing today and thats 147 and 168. These two weight classes have been whats kept boxing exciting this past year....
The heavies have disappointed us all....The lightweights, well, they are lightweights....
The welters and Super Middles have made for some exciting match ups....PBF, Calzaghe, Kessler, Green, Lacy
I think Baldy could add a little spice to the Light Middles by adding a very tough fighter to a weight class that needs excitement....Right now, the Light Middles have a bunch of guys that are in need of exciting match ups and Baldy could produce some of it for them....
How can I say this?? you ask....
Well, its extra weight that Baldy does not have to worry about losing and in Boxing, 7-10lbs. is ALOT....which in turn, helps with his energy and stamina levels(Which arent that bad now). Plus, he doesnt have to worry about being lightning fast, power will play a little bit more in this weight class...I am not saying that Baldy would add all the excitement, there are a FEW fighters in the class that would be tough, but not many....Mosley and DLH, being the few I am talkin about....The rest, I dont see giving Baldy that much trouble....he may not win all of the fights in this class, but he sure would make them work for the win....
I will be the first to admit, PBF did what he needed to do to win, HE BOXED...I never said he didnt....But, I dont like to see fighters drop 40+ lbs to make weight for a fight, I dont even allow for my pro fighters, by contract, even weigh more than 10lbs above their weight class at any given time....This is so that any needed weight loss will not hurt them in any way, shape or form.....Extreme Weight loss is damaging to the body, whats even worse is when the weight is made and the fighter can relax and eat a little more than usual(like 5 Cheeseburgers, 2 shakes and three large fries!!! LOL)....
If taking fights at one weight class higher will help any for Baldy, then he should do it....I dont see any problems for him there at the light middles....
Good luck,
Coach
