LOL, that's crazy.. The only reason he has made a ripple at welterweight is because he's freaking huge for 147 and can take just about anyones best shot.. At 154 or 160 he would be absolutely nothing.. I seriously doubt you are a boxing coach, or at least a good one, with your comments in this thread... Baldomir won 5 rounds against Floyd, he would be "awesome" at 154 or 160?? WHY.. What attributes do you think would serve him so well at a higher weight.. He does absolutely nothing impressivly he is just big and strong for a welter. At 154, let alone 160, he wouldn't even be able to take punishment which is all he's good at.
    Well,

here is the way I see it....

There are two bad ass weightg classe that you need to have speed and power in in the sport of boxing today and thats 147 and 168. These two weight classes have been whats kept boxing exciting this past year....

The heavies have disappointed us all....The lightweights, well, they are lightweights....

The welters and Super Middles have made for some exciting match ups....PBF, Calzaghe, Kessler, Green, Lacy

I think Baldy could add a little spice to the Light Middles by adding a very tough fighter to a weight class that needs excitement....Right now, the Light Middles have a bunch of guys that are in need of exciting match ups and Baldy could produce some of it for them....

How can I say this?? you ask....

Well, its extra weight that Baldy does not have to worry about losing and in Boxing, 7-10lbs. is ALOT....which in turn, helps with his energy and stamina levels(Which arent that bad now). Plus, he doesnt have to worry about being lightning fast, power will play a little bit more in this weight class...I am not saying that Baldy would add all the excitement, there are a FEW fighters in the class that would be tough, but not many....Mosley and DLH, being the few I am talkin about....The rest, I dont see giving Baldy that much trouble....he may not win all of the fights in this class, but he sure would make them work for the win....

I will be the first to admit, PBF did what he needed to do to win, HE BOXED...I never said he didnt....But, I dont like to see fighters drop 40+ lbs to make weight for a fight, I dont even allow for my pro fighters, by contract, even weigh more than 10lbs above their weight class at any given time....This is so that any needed weight loss will not hurt them in any way, shape or form.....Extreme Weight loss is damaging to the body, whats even worse is when the weight is made and the fighter can relax and eat a little more than usual(like 5 Cheeseburgers, 2 shakes and three large fries!!! LOL)....

If taking fights at one weight class higher will help any for Baldy, then he should do it....I dont see any problems for him there at the light middles....

    Good luck,

    Coach

Disagree. 168 is one of the weakest divisions in boxing today. One, possibly two, good fighters and a bunch of bums. Lacy and Green . . . I don't think so.

to say that anybody who thought that was boring is a "casual fan" is silly.
the emporor's new clothes...... nobody will buy that im afraid.

the fight was pure muck. as somebody said earlier,...... winky wright must be a casual fan ,...cause he left early too.
I didnt say anyone who left early was a casual fan. Maybe winky wright had other things to do...but I bet you he wouldnt call that fight 'boring'. Anyone who does just doesnt appreciate the scientific and technical aspect of boxing. I didnt think it was a super high intensity awesome fight, but i was impressed with Floyd's speed and the manner in which he was able to hit Baldomir and not be hit back. I thought he fought a smart fight. There is more to boxing than just toe-to-toe slugging is all Im trying to say and it seems like if the two guys dont beat eachother's brains out like Castillo-Corrales or Gatti-Ward, people want to talk shit about it. You go in there and try fighting for 12 rounds against a guy who doesnt get knocked out and just keeps coming at you...what would you do? If you were smart you would fight him going backwards, counter and move. Thats what PBF did. Were he a natural welterweight, it might have been a different story. Im giving credit where credit is due. Dont call me a punk for it.

BoxingCoachBW - are you a coach to Professionals/Top Amateurs/kids or what?

I'm interested because you actually take the time to sign each of your posts off as "Coach". Is that what your friends call you too?

I'm interested because I have a job, but I would not define myself by it and sign off under my job title, or even call myself that. If it wasn't my job, or if it was something I did in my spare time, I would think it pretentious to call myself a coach.

I'm not criticising you - I'm interested, I have seen lots of American TV shows where there is a guy called 'Coach' for example, so maybe you guys think differently about this sort of thing?

    Yes,

Coach is what I am known as in/out of the gym....

Its manditory for all fighters to address the trainers as "Coach" , "Coach (First Name)" or "Coach (Last Name)....Its a part of respect towards trainers in the gym and in turn, I make sure that I learn every kid's first and last name and even things like their birthdays...I do this because it builds the one on one relationship between fighter and coach....

The reason I sign off as coach and let all know that I wish them good luck, is to build that relaionship between fans......I have disgraced myself with some recent comments to others that post on these forums....I apologize for getting out of line, its not a way to earn respect, its a way to lose it....

Now, I must regain that respect from those people, because I really do respect them for their opinions and I let them down by responding the way I did....

I hope that I answered your question,,

    Good Luck,

    Coach

whoever said Baldomir can add something to the 154 pound class. I don't think so. The guy is strong at 147, but at 154 he would be ordinary and a guy like Winky would outpoint him easily.

I dont know about that though.....Winky is good, dont get me wrong, but you arent talkin about someone who will jab and grab here....Baldy will exchange with you...

Winky likes that kind of stuff, but he hasnt ever done it with anyone that would do it back....

This would be a very goood fight for both guys...They both have losses, they are both punchers and I think it would bring some life to the division...

    Good luck,

    Coach

The issue is that Floyd will never do enough to silence his critics.
