Default Maskaev's next fight according to boxrec

Supposedly maskaev is fighting some 18-4 bum who some how earned a title shot. He's fought nothing but journeymen and i really don't see how he's even in the conversation of a major title belt. The fights marked to take place on December 10th.

Peter Okhello is rated 10th by the WBC

It's not a MANDATORY defense, it's an optional one. Oleg just wanted to fight in Moscow...no biggy

Besides the Wladimir-Oleg fight is already in negotiations

Boxrec had wlad/briggs listed for awhile too so hopefully those talks get somewhere before then.

    ESPN's Dan Rafael has reported

After Wladimir Klitschko knocked out Calvin Brock in the seventh round last week to retain his heavyweight championship, he said he only wanted a unification bout in his next fight. Klitschko could get his wish. There have been preliminary talks between the Klitschko camp and Dennis Rappaport, who promotes titlist Oleg Maskaev. If Maskaev is successful defending his belt Dec. 10 against Peter Okhello in Moscow, the target date for a possible Klitschko-Maskaev bout is April 28 on HBO. Organizers would like to go back to New York's Madison Square Garden, where Klitschko drew a raucous crowd of 14,260 to fight Brock. A fight with Maskaev probably would be even bigger because of the unification aspect and the fact that Maskaev has been based in New York since moving to the United States.

    and also

After Wladimir Klitschko defended his IBF heavyweight title with a crushing seventh-round knockout of Calvin Brock on Nov. 11 at New York's Madison Square Garden, Shannon Briggs made an appearance at the postfight news conference to try to goad Klitschko into a unification fight.

"I respect you, brother, but let's unify these titles," Briggs said to Klitschko in front of the assembled media.

Briggs, a New Yorker, had been Klitschko's first choice of opponent until the deal fell apart. Klitschko wound up fighting Brock, and Briggs took a Nov. 4 fight against Sergei Liakhovich, relieving him of his WBO title belt via 12th-round TKO.

Klitschko, certainly willing to fight Briggs, drew 14,260 to the Garden for the fight with lesser-known Brock. Next, Klitschko wants only a unification bout of some sort, and one with Briggs in New York surely would be a huge draw.

However, Briggs is obligated to face mandatory challenger Sultan Ibragimov (19-0-1, 16 KOs) by February, which obviously would delay the prospect of a Klitschko-Briggs fight.

Ibragimov wants his chance, even if he didn't exactly earn it; he's coming off a draw against Ray Austin.

"I hope [Briggs] enjoys his time with the belt now because he won't have a long reign," Ibragimov said.

Ibragimov is co-promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, which hopes to make a deal with Briggs' promoter, Don King, quickly.

"We're looking forward to speaking with Don and getting this bout done as quickly as possible," De La Hoya said. "We're confident that Sultan Ibragimov is the next heavyweight champion of the world, and we're eager to see him beat Shannon Briggs and put that championship belt around his waist."

I dunno how Austin and Ibragimov made it so high on the rankings either. Isn't austin a mandatory for somebody too? Briggs should eek past sultan because hes nothing special and maskaev's probably gonna have a successful defense so its more than likely gonna be wlad and maskaev/briggs around summer of 07 to sort out all these loose ends. Hopefully by then Vitali comes back and knocks off Valuev.

Austin is a mandatory for Wlad but if the oppertunity arises to make a unification fight I am 100% sure Wlad will take it (the unification fight)
