Default How far can Hatton go ?

We all expect him to beat urango on sat but what does the future hold ? Will we see him against the likes of Castillo, Mayweather, De la Hoya, Mosely or Margerito ?

He should go Urango -> Castillo -> Corrales -> Cotto -> Floyd.

I think he stay at 140 for as long as he can so he'll fight Castillo then probably Corrales. Then he'll move up for a couple last cash grabs, Cotto, and if he gets past him, Mayweather.

If he stays at 140 I can't see any big fights except JLC. Would love to see him fight PBF, but it aint gonna happen. I think he gets murdered by Coto or PBF at 147, 140 is a different story!

i don't think hatton should go for coralles, as far as i'm concerned castillo is the better fighter out of him and diego. and if ricky goes for castillo next and beats him i dont think there is much to achieve by fighting corrales. i would rather see him fight witter instead of coralles. if witter's picked up his profile a bit by then and kept on winning then that would make for an awesome domestic fight and would itch the scratch on hatton's arse that is junior witter. and i want to see hatton - cotto and hatton - mayweather before the hitman retires.

I like Hatton. But I think that deep down inside Hatton doesn\'t really want to face Mayweather

I think he does, he just accepts his the toughest fight he could take. I hope they get it on I really do, Hatton wouldn't let Floyd do what he did to Gatti or Baldi thats for sure

I think after he blows out Urango, he loses to Castillo, so I don't know how that changes his plans or marketability.

Would be no great shame to lose to Castillo even though I don't agree. A lot of great fighters have defeats. He would still be marketable and still put bums on seats. He could still sell PPV's by the bucketload in the UK and sell out Arena's here. Witter would more than likely be a viable option.

    Won't happen though

He can go far, but I don't think he'll remain unbeaten...

We can agree to disagree, I have no problem with that, which brings me to my point, there is no point in looking past the fight right in front of you, a thread exactly like this went up before he fought Collazo, after pages and pages of speculation I don't remember anyone saying "He should fight Urango next" there are just too many factors to speculate past the next fight.

Hatton will go far and become a fan favourite

Hes taking risky fights, his last 3 fights all could have genuinely gone either way, so it makes for more drama.

When was the last time Floyd wasnt the favourite, its not because hes that good but rather the opponents werent, Zab lost his previous fight !

Hatton makes boxing fans (through his style and attitude) much like Tyson did way back when

Gotta disagree here. Ricky was a big underdog against Kosta Tyszu granted but both Maussa and Collazo were seen at the time as being easy fights to pick up a couple more titles.

If Mayweather had fought either of these there would have been an outcry.

Maussa was probably one of the least skilled boxing champions of all time, he was fucking terrible.

That fact was demonstrated perfectly by the fact that he lost to complete nobody in his next fight.

There is absolutely nothing on the Collazo record to suggest that he is anywhere near a world class fighter other than his performance against Ricky Hatton.

He won his title against Jose Riveria in a split decision victory, Riveria recently got his ass kicked and lost all 9 rounds against Travis Simms last week, a fighter who hadn't fought for 2 and a half years.

I fully expect Mosely to give Collazo a beating and then Ricky Hatton's performance will be put more in perspective.

I really love Ricky's all action style, and he's a true Brit and for that I'll always root for him, but he's not the monster at 140 lbs that people seem to think he is.

I also can't understand this kind of widely accepted position that Ricky is unbeatable at 140 but is too small to make 147.

The idea that 7 lbs difference either way would mean victory or defeat to Cotto for example I don't buy at all.

If Cotto could beat Hatton at 147 he would beat him at 140, providing he wasn't killing himself to make the weight.

And if the only reason Hatton would beat Cotto at 140 is because Cotto would be too weight drained to fight properly, what the hell kind of victory would that be?

Hatton is a really exciting, never quit, all action fighter, but he's not on the level of guys like Mayweather, De La Hoya or I supect Cotto.

Good fighter definitely, great.....I don't think so.

You dont think that a fighter has an optimum weight limit? Anything over that weight starts to have a negative impact on performance?

That kinda goes both ways though doesnt it? If Cotto were to beat Ricky at 147 where Cotto is clearly the more comfortable that would be a hollow victory too would it not? Unless they fought a 143lb catchweight contest one of them is at a disadvantage.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough
