Whattup Tito?!?!?!
I know that this aint in the ring...but it was at a presser & I'm not rubbing it in your face because your'e a Tito fan...TitoFan...but the bullshit that my guy (Hopkins) pulled in Puerto (throwing down the flag) caused an insanely huge riot...I think it was at a presser.
He had to run for his life as the mob surged up onto the stage.
I know that he was doing it to hype the fight...but it was still bullshit. I hate shit like that...but Hopkins was known for going above & beyond back then.
Set up a huge rivalry & a hell of a fight...it just enraged the country...atleast he apologized for it...still don't make it right.
Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!
Hey wack !! Just dropped in for a little boxing R&R. Anyway, you're absolutely right. That episode at the press conference in San Juan got everybody up in an uproar. Hell, even I would've chased Hopkins around had I been there.Originally Posted by wacko3205
People blamed Don King for putting Hopkins up to it. But let's face it, Hopkins, as the adult, mature person he is... should've told King to shove it, and think of another way to hype the fight. That kind of sh*t is just plain unacceptable.
Nah babe...that shit was all Hopkins. Honestly though...he was ashamed of it afterwards...read an interview about it...wish I had the link. He was really REALLY remorseful about it. I was kinda surprised...he also propped Tito & Papa Tito in the end.Originally Posted by TitoFan
Still...it don't make it right. There are very few things that I have issues with Hopkins over...that is one of them. Lost respect for him over that stunt...but I gained it back a few fights down the road...happens that way with your favorites.

Well, look at it this way: Everybody's allowed to make mistakes. But if you're a man about it and admit to it, it goes a long ways to patch things up. The fact that BHop was remorseful about what he did (and seemed sincere about it), took off some of the anger. I personally don't dislike the guy. Matter of fact, I respect his approach to fighting and the way he tends to be his own man. If I were to list fighters I dislike, I'd have to start the list with the likes of James Toney and Zab Judah.Originally Posted by wacko3205

Sure it doesn't make it but its a lot more than most would do. It seems incredible what some boxers do, but such passionate men who are focused solely on 1 thing, (fighting) can be easily swayed and influence. Looks like Bernard has grown wise these days to a lot of the crap in the boxing business.Originally Posted by wacko3205

He is indeed one of the more "colorful characters" (putting it mildly) in boxing. He's something else...his life, his history within the sport, and what he's become is an inspiration to those that want to change their lives.
He's grown a hell of a lot...of that you are correct.

Man that KO was horrific....he was gone with the right pretty early on in that flurry, and everything else was just helping him on the way down. That was some seriously nasty looking stuff, and you can hear from the camera's mic that his brother is really worried about him.Originally Posted by Lords Gym
