    Default Problem with fights fans.

There are too many blood thirsty fans, and not enough guys who actually acknowledge boxing as a sport. People forget with the much bigger gloves nowadays its way harder to knock out a guy than when Robinson fought with 4-6oz. gloves which were basically MMA gloves or the equivalent. Even so back in the day people like Floyd or Roy would have been held on top of the world for their supreme talent while today they are boo'ed for not being "Gutsy" enough. I just feel people today not just in boxing like more violence, and less of the actual sport... I remember when people were saying Hockey would be ruined without the fighting, and there is now way more fighting in basketball and football then there was 10-15 years ago.

I agree with you about the criticism regarding Floyd, to me he's flat out one of the most exciting boxers in the sport today. I enjoyed watching him confuse and bedazzle Carlos Baldimor far more than I enjoyed watching Hatton grapple and hold his way to victory over Urango.

I think defense can be a very exciting part of boxing.

Not sure about it being eaiser to knock people out in the old days though. Personally I think fighters were much tougher back then. They would keep getting up regardless and depending how far back you go could keep going for 20, 30 40 rounds or more.

I can't see many of todays fighters managing that.

the style of glove is more important, 10 oz Reyes will put you flat on your ass !

yeah but in the golden days of football late 70's early 80's , they would empty the bench .. there were many of fights in the center of the football field .. and back then you could put the Quarterbacks flat on his ass without getting penalized ! QB's are babied now days !

Confuse and bedazzle Baldomir? He just got out of the way with his quickness, I am surprised you enjoyed a fight with 12 almost identical rounds.......that does take some effort
Of course it WAS easier to knock someone out wearing lighter (therefore less padded) gloves but that would f*ck Floyd up due to a much greater chance of nail breakage.

back in the days roy and floyd would of got bullied, roy may had a chance brawling but little floyd can't brawl at all, he'd have to stay away for 15 rounds...by the 13th round little floyd would of got a heartattack if he was still standing.

yea good point about the gloves being smaller then, but them guys back then took those shot for 15 rounds and would get up at all cost, nowadays we have less warriors our boxers becoming business mans instead of fighters. damn sissy show offs, unlike back then they fought eachother no ducking no currupt cRAp, champions defended titles a dozen times a year, unlike nowadays we have a dozen champion in one division which is b.s plus they don't defend as much.

and by the way....sugaR RAy Robinson would whoop floyd at lunch time then roy before dinner.

Back in the day Roy or Floyd, assuming they were the same fighters they are today... Would be all time greats just like they have been now.. If you really think what you just typed your simply one of the people this post refers to.

Really? I own two pairs of 16 oz gloves... I spar in one pair and use the other for bag work... the bag ones I use are barely padded at all and the sparring ones like more like 120z gloves than 16... I've seen some 14s that look like pillows... it's not as black and white as that...

If you think Floyd doesn't know how to brawl then you haven't watched enough Floyd Mayweather fights.

thats true floyd just wouldnt have moved up throught the weights if he had to brawl like " back in the day" if youve seen floyd in his days at 130 he definately did have punching power and definately could brawl.just ask angel manfredy or chico corrales.
