Default Hatton insists he can do better

Ricky Hatton has rejected claims following his victory over Juan Urango that his powers are on the wane.
The Briton was far from his best as he regained the IBF light welterweight title in Las Vegas earlier this month.

"The Americans know I'm a good fighter, but I've not had the two easiest opponents to look good against," Hatton told BBC Sport.

"I think I've looked as exciting as they expect me to be, but I know I can do better."

Hatton, who was suffering from a cold before the fight with Urango, added: "In my last two fights in the US, I've had two southpaws over two different weights and it has been difficult to move up and down weight divisions. Read more...

starting to side with castillo now to win their fight, maybe hatton will shut up with the excuses,

"Some of my opponents are awkward style-wise and you are not going to shine against them.

"That is nothing to do with my weight but all to do with the opponents.

yeah fucking right mate! Urango style was tailor made for you.. he came forward, was easy as hell to hit, collazo fair enough, south paw fast hands, but again it wasn't really his 'style' more of his speed that screwed hatton up

The thing about Urango is that he IS easy to hit but he is hard to shake plus he's a southpaw, which Ricky has always struggled against.

Reason being is during exchanges (against southpaws), he gets hit with too many tail-enders. Urangos south-paw left-hook being a good example.

Urango was cagey as heck and wouldn't punch first, Hatton is a natural counter puncher, he moves off his opponents punches, Urango didn't live up to his part of the bargain IMO, he wasn't so much come forward, he would stalk but never go first. You can't counter someone who doesn't lead. Against Castillo you will see the very best Ricky Hatton.

i supose he's right though. urango, collazo and mauser are all pretty awkward fighters. and a fighter making excuses always happens when a fighter receives so much negative press. it's not so much excuses but more exlplaingin and justifiying yourself because so many people are being negative towards you

Let's just hope Hatton doesn't catch a case of the sniffles before his next fight, or hurt his arm, or whatever other story he comes up with.....

The thing is that URango was obviously sought out as an opponent he COULD look good against. If he and his camp didn't think that he could shine against Urango why did they want the fight?? It's not as if anyone gave two shits about Urango... Or as if he cared about the belt, hell he's already going to vacate it.. These excuses are ridiculous. Maussa and Urango are not elite fighters. Urango is a complete plodder with almost no output, Maussa sure he's akward but he can't even fight. Cotto didn't have any problem destroying him back when he was green. Ben Rabah looked just as good beating Urango then Hatton did, to be honest... He moved back alot but he boxed consistently and easily outlanded and outboxed him over 12.. Why tell people after a fight(or 2) that you can look better? Just do it!!!
