Default Clinton Woods vs. Antonio Tarver in May?

It was reported by UK scribe Ron Lewis that IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods may face former champion Antonio Tarver in May. Dennis Hobson, promoter of Woods, has held negotiations with Tarver and Roy Jones Jr., but said that Tarver is the preferred choice. The bout would take place in the United States.

Woods needs to think carefully about who he takes on. At this stage of his career it may just be one payday, or a victory and 2 paydays. Tarver could be a difficult but winable fight but likely a big payday cos of Rocky, Johnson rematch would be winable fight but less of a payday, RJJ would be possibly a much harder or easier fight and a decent payday, and Dawson would be an unknown quantity. If it was me, I'd go after RJJ. Gamo for saving me the hassle of surfin round on a Monay morning it's much appreciated.

Hobson fancies Woods’s chances, especially against Tarver. “I have seen him lose to a 41-year-old [Hopkins] and then a 60-year-old [Stallone]. I think he’s got problems,” Hobson said.

    3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.

All good points, but on the other hand tarver will approach his next bout with redemption in mind...Antonio Tarver is a former world champion, he is by no stretch of the imagination a walkover and his mentality will be incomparable to that displayed in the Hopkins blowout... On the other hand we saw Woods versus Johnson with Woods surviving on courage alone to win because of a lead he built up early on,
Another Johnson fight may not grab the attention of the boxing public.
A Tarver fight could be risky and due to Tarvers last performance not a huge draw.
A Jones fight seems to be not only the easiest but undoubtedly the most profitable.

If i were a manager i know the route i would take.

Im glad Woods is thinking of this matchup. I think as a champion hes been getting better and better but he needs a big fight.

Its a dangerous one against Tarver as Tarver will want to make a statement after looking so bad last time.

I think its a fight Woods is well capable of winning but its a tough one

tarver is way way overrated, never done nowt apart from beat a gatekeeper in johnson and an old washed up RJJ...

this will be a tough fight for woods, could go either way - but a good move for clinton.

If Tarver is overrated, than what does that make Woods? Considering he lost twice (the draw was a loss) to Johnson and couldn't do nothing against Jones.

Tarver is getting on in years, and Woods is showing improvement recently, the combination of the two has helped him against Johnson in the 3rd fight and may help him against RJJ or Tarver now. I wouldn't recommend he faught Dawson, but if he did and beat him he'd be the top dog for sure.

This would be awesome. Both fighters really need this fight and i think its a brilliant match up. I really think it will be another case of who wants it more like CW-GJ 3 but it should be an awesome fight. I want Woods to win because i feeel hes the biggest name at at light heavy at the momment.

I'm agreein with preme there! British fighters are not gettin the recognition they do justly deserve i.e. Calzaghe, Maccrenelli, Haye, Cook, Arthur to name but a few...and then when a brit/European does get recognised they are belittled and disrespected....
What ever happened to respect for any man with the courage to enter a ring??

RJJ would be a big step...maybe taking Tarver with the hope that he still hasn't recovered from the weight loss and due to Tarvers recent exposure...a big payday.....
It feels good to be back home.
