Default Joel Casamayor: Beltless & Fightless

It appears that Casamayor has taken one deep as he was stripped of his WBC belt after pursing a fight with WBO Champ 'Popo' Freitas....
Well I just saw on ESPN and and on fightnews that Freitas has signed on to fight WBA Champ. Juan Diaz.

The Freitas-Casamayor fight fell through when NO NETWORK would pick up the fight.....

Freitas-Diaz will fight on HBO on April 28.....

Let me hear it Violent Demise, what happened here?

Casamayor is STILL the ring magazine champ though. He does appear to be in a bit of a pickle. I'm sure he will find an opponent, Julio Diaz perhaps?

What network wouldn't pick up this fight? Showtime? Are you kidding me?

Juan Diaz is an awesome fighter and a fight with Freitas is going to be awesome but for the time being....does anyone have worse luck then Casamayor? He can't get a decision to save his life and now the biggest fight of his career falls through after he drops the most important belt he's ever had.

    Wow...

I doubt it. He just turned down Diaz to fight Freitas and I'm sure the WBC won't let him hop right back in the ring with Julio. Besides, Diaz is trying to score a date with Morales.

Stop being such a negative nancy. This sucks for Casamayor, but when you are THE champ at 135, you should be able to find an opponent.

You should. But he SHOULD have got the decision over Kid Diamond too

And if TV doesn't want to pay to see him fight Freitas...then wtf else is he suppose to do?

Fight Kid Diamond again on the Versus network.

No network picked up the fight cuz of Freitas. Showtime rather not deal with Freitas any more. They invested a lot of money in him in the past in hopes of making him a star. Which didn't quite happen. Not only that he also became difficult to work with. Turning down rematches with both Casamayor and Corrales. But Showtime was willing to televise the fight because it was after all a Lightweight title fight. But Freitas said that he would only fight Casamayor if it took place in Brazil. Some thing both Showtime and Casamayor were unwilling to do. While negotiations were going back and forth, Freitas being the coward that he is signs to face Juan Diaz (another coward who did his best to avoid Casamayor). In a fight that will no doubt not take place in Brazil. Freitas and Diaz both don't want to fight Casamayor. That's pretty obvious. I don't see Morales coming back any time soon. So I think Casamayor will pretty much be wasting his time fighting David Diaz. A mediocre fighter. But one who at least has the heart to fight Casamayor .

Juan Diaz ain't Casamayor, but what that being said IF Juan Diaz does go to Brazil and beats Freitas there that speaks volumes IMO.
I know Casamayors the Ring Champ. and he gets seniority/upper hand but as he has to realise sometimes the bad part of the sport will get the best of you and your years IF you let it. To be honest it seems like he is letting it, in 2004 he lost 2 out 3 fights, in 2005 he fought once and got a draw (regardless of how the fight really went, I'm just talking about whats on record), in 2006 he had 2 warm up fights to get the rythim going and then he had a big win against Chico.

He needs an opponent and he needs one quick..... All re-match with Kid Diamond wouldn't be a bad idea at all IMO.

Actually that's a good idea but isn't Diamond at 140 now?

A waste of time. It's one thing to drop a close decision. And another to get completely destroyed. Diamond got destroyed against Nate Campbell. He should not be rewarded with a title shot. I rather see Campbell against Casamayor than Diamond. And Freitas-Diaz will not be in Brazil. That i promise you.

I feel for Joel but I heard he may very well fight David Diaz It's at the other site which we can't post links from I think. I'm confused!! Also, you have to remember that MOST people don't know about the RING title so it has very little significance.

He is a hard head that Casamayor....Joel has some personal feelings about a few fighters and will not let s*** go....

On his hit list are guys he felt has ducked him and deprived him of some big $$ fights...Or he feels are just over rated and wants to expose them....

Freitas,,Pacquiao ( whom supposedly turned down 5 mil to fight..at pacs weight),,Floyd mayweather,,Ricky Hatton and formerly Diego Corrales...

The guy does not care about titles he wants respect before he retires and feels he is better than the guys getting the hype...Or at least just as good.....He is also fond of calling them B****es lol.....

He told me he wanted to fight PBF in the street bare fisted like real men ..I guess he was that serious he was willing to lose a belt in hopes of getting some satisfaction

Sucks for Casamayor, especially considering he's already getting old.

But Diaz-Freitas is interesting, I love to watch Diaz fight but was getting annoyed by him not fighting anybody. I think Diaz can win this, just have to see if he's gotta good enough chin.

This is a prime example of why the alaphabet titles need to be ignored and The Ring Champion recognised as the true world champion.

Casamayor is still the champ in my book.
