cc One of the best Floyd posts I've read yet
I don't know where all these "Floyd just runs from his opponents!" arguments come from.Especially in a lot of his recent fights, Floyd has been doing more and more standing and inside fighting. Anyone's who has seen his career knows he doesn't run. It makes sense for him to be a runner with his speed and defense, but he doesn't do it. He DOES go toe to toe.
If his detractors are saying he should go toe to toe ie. completely without guard, why would he do that? Just because he isn't getting hit doesn't mean he isn't standing and fighting

Thanks for the cc I agree with you that Floyd DOES go toe to toe in many of his fights.

The only times recently he's adopted a cautious approach was against Baldimor, and considering Baldimor walks around at 190 lb and Floyd knew his destiny fight with De La Hoya was there for him as long as won he did the sensible thing, stay out of trouble, get an easy win, but still dominate your opponent and set yourself up for the mega fight next time.

If anyone was to blame for the lacklustre Baldi fight it was Carlos himself. He was the champion, the guy holding the belt, if he had wanted to keep it he should have shown more passion and actually tried to fight.

Floyd did exactly what was required of him.

I can't see how anyone who has actually watched all of Floyd's fight could possibly say he was boring, cowardly or a runner. He's an awesome fighter to watch.

Mayweather has foughten Corrales and Castillo. Enough said. In Castillo's prime IMO as well, and he had just moved up to the weight. At lightweight Castillo is as good as we've seen in a very long time, and was very underrated as a boxer. I don't think he is a big puncher like some people, and I believe that he will not be successful at light welterweight because all those battles with the scale have virtually sucked him dry. Corrales is quick, a exceptionally power puncher, and very tall. I believe he did try to chase Mayweather down, but unless your in the ring you can't acknowledge three things he had to deal with. 1. Mayweather's speed of foot and hand. 2. Mayweather's countering ability, and 3. Mayweather was very powerful at 130, and hit hard at the weight. Either than them he has still foughten an arsenal of fighters who are very respectable like Hernandez, Chavez, Younger Burton, Manfredy, Ndou, Corley, Gatti, Sosa. IMO if you say Mayweather hasn't foughten enough good competition I think your full of it. Castillo, Corrales, and Casamayor IMO will have a legacy built at lightweight as making it one of the best divisions while they were in it, and Mayweather will be given more credit for that in the future. I think Jesus Chavez could still do big things in the sport, and same with Judah if he fights the right opponents, and comes prepared. Philip Ndou has fallen off since fighting Mayweather, but his fights afterwards lacked the same heart, and he seemed less determined than when he faced Mayweather. I think like Roy Jones Jr. who IMO fought alot of solid competition, and has a much better resume IMO than SRR, and Joe Louis. Compared Prime James Toney to Lamotta or Basillio or even Fulmer and He would have beat them all, same with B-Hop who IMO would have even given a prime Sugar Ray a good fight though I don't think he could have beaten Robinson, and Roy beat Hopkins with a broken hand. People say his LHW opponents were weak yet they had beaten all the guys he was suppose to have foughten who were unwilling to come overseas to fight him.

I root for underdogs. Maybe it's because I'm a Red Sox fan. I love the compelling story, the guy overcoming age or physical limitations with heart, desire, and dedication. They guy who has to take on the unbeatable great. I tend to root for guys who overcome a poetic, potentially fatal achilles heal or flaw. I love Frazier, Duran, James Toney, Lennox Lewis, Ward, Gatti, Shane Mosley etc etc.

I used to hate ODLH, especially for robbing Pernell, but now he's on my list. I love him in role of old veteran underdog. It suits him. After the losses to Mosley and Hopkins, he just became more interesting and likable to me. So can't root for Mayweather. I give him all the respect in the world, but I hope he gets his ass knocked out, and then I hope he comes back from it like a true champion and reestablishes himself. Once he tastes a little humility, I'll like him more.

Floyd will NOT be beaten...which is why half of you not like him.Who cares about his attitude? The fact that people wanna see him fall does nothing but motivates him.

I look at it this way. If Mayweather is better he will prove it. When Hearns fought Hagler they were both cocky.. Cockyness is good. It makes for attitude and ego and that means usually they will put up a good fight. Hearns tried to knock out Hagler with that massive right hand in round one and Hagler wobbled but stayed up and Hagler eventually won after getting nailed alot as was Hearns. The attitude of Mayweather is a good thing. I just do not know if he has the heart of a Leonard or a Hagler. Alot of cocky guys do not respond well when beating nailed when they are not used to it. But if Mayweather wins it is almost justified since Oscar does seem to lose the big one alot. The way he lost to Hopkins was in my mind a little pathetic. Almost like he gave up and quit.. He was smaller than Hopkins but the way he went down didn't make sense to me. With a bodyshot. Do you think Mayweather is thinking bodyshots? Maybe, although he is shorter than Hopkins and to get inside will be open to Delahoyas jab and lefthook. But I think Mayweather wins this fight by decision.

Every fighter has something to prove ok....that's why they fucking fight! Don't act like Floyd is the only guy trying to prove people wrong.....Oscar is trying to prove people wrong by beating Floyd as well.

His attitude has a lot to do with why I don't respect him as a fighter....he's talented but he thinks too highly of himself. Look back in time only Ali, Larry Holmes, and a few others shouted about how they were the greatest ever.....Mike Tyson at the height of his career was always humble about his talent and always gracious of those who came before him.

Floyd can prop himself up as high as he wants to, but he better know the higher he props himself up the farther he's going to fall when he does get beat

Lyle do you or have you ever competed in any sport? If you aren't aiming to become the best in your craft...then why do it?Ask Jordan,Shaq,Terrell Owens,Iverson,Peyton Manning,etc...they ALL think that they are the best.People just dont like certain people coming out and saying that they are the best.If tiger woods said that he was the best golfer in the world...people would be talkin sh*t to him too.I could careless if he was the biggest a** in the world. It has no affect on his boxing skills.I'm not trying to date him so who cares.Floyd has already stated that he has nothing to prove. So Lyle..when will Floyd fall? The more he wins that more your gonna hate.He had an amazing amatuer career-olympic medalist-successful pro career-unbeaten-and he LOVES boxing. What more does he have to prove?b/c believe me...DLH is gonna lose.37 have tried...and 37 have failed.
