    Default That sucks!

A proposed May 19 fight between former WBO heavyweight champion Lamont Brewster and David Tua has been rejected by Team Tua, preferring to keep Tuaman in smaller confidence-building fights for the moment. Tua is lazy.

Tua doesn't even have the willingness to become a contender again.. Why is he fighting anymore.

The thing is the deal (as presented) keeps Tua from having a fight in between matches , David needs the activity, he has been off for a very long time mate , and I might add the deal is not 100% shot either, if things can be arranged where Tua can fight in the interim . David looks to have 2 maybe 3 more fight under his belt by May.

Yes he has been off a long time.. But since returning he has basically looked WORSE in each progressing bout. You've got to think at this point it's more to do with his motivation and training/eating habits then it has to do with him needing more fights.. And besides, the fact is that if he is going to keep on fighting soft touches, there's nothing motivating him to come in better shape.. It's a catch 22 in a way, or at least he's making it one.. If I thought they guy was busting his ass and performing to the best of his ability then Id have nothing but sympathy for him wanting to keep busy and shake off the rust. I just think it has as much, probably more, to do with him not training hard and overeating. It's basically spit or get out of the pan at some point.. He's not 45 years old he just need to come in shape, and I think only a meaningful fight will be able to motivate him.

tua is daft for not taking that fight if that was the case. he's most definatly no spring chicken and cant afford to be rejecting fights like that that could set him up for a title shot (which is what he says he wants). he would gain much more by taking that fight than he would by having all these fights and treating em to get in contender shape. yeah he'll be rusty from the layoff but he still has the knowledge and these fights arnt sparring. he should train more if he's not in shape. simple as.

you've all said it though, Tua has looked shit in his last couple of outings, so you can't blame him too much for not wanting to get back in there against Lamon Brewster so quickly. He probably doesn't think that he's ready to take on someone as good as that yet, that he needs to be in better shape and needs a few more fights. Sounds fair enuff to me.

Lamon would have beat him handily and been back on the world stage and Tua would be gone.

Whilst Tua can not take the fight, have these comeback fights, some ESPN knockout against as past it fighter or two and then be on HBO in the winter(hey it worked for Moorer...before Tua)

Hmm 2 similar fighters.. they can both Whack but can't box as Brewster showed against Meehan (although he probably wone that fight)
I don't blame Tua for staying away! pick someone easier!
He needs to stick to guys he can bang out of there or guys who he can win decisions over..and that doesn't give him too many top guys as options

Tua is only 34 with lots of power and one hell of a chin, with that combination anything is possible, anyway I would love to see him and Samuel Peter lock horns.
