Lovely stuff....Jones Jr taking the easy option?!
Its not unknown
I agreed with Jones, personally. He won the first match-up and at the time he was the more popular fighter. He deserved the lion's share of the purse.
Oops
60-40 for RJJ title was more than fair imo - like he said he beat him once with hand, hes only ever beaten a fighter with name once at that pointOriginally Posted by miles
I hate that attitude, if you are confident of winning then what is wrong with half the purse? Your career will continue if you win and the loser has their payoff....Originally Posted by liquid
It is quite fair really...
i think pride had a lot to do with it tho. For sum1 like roy to accept 50-50 with hopkins it would be like admiting that hopkins was on par with him, something RJJ didn't believe.Originally Posted by miles
but if Roy was confident of winning then what is the issue?!Originally Posted by Preme
exactly, its a chicken way of walking in my way of thinking...
"If im the best and I think I can win...50: 50 is a fair deal.....because I will win!!!"
same really as hopkins refusing to take the 40%, if he thought he would win then take the 40, after that we would be in mega money fights - 40% would of still been more than he has ever been paid in his career before.Originally Posted by miles
Hopkins really proved Roy's point. Hopkins agreed Roy said he was bigger then him(true) then why can't Hopkins accept 60-40
roy's always been a runner, in and out the ring, he keeps claiming he beat this guy with a broken hand that guy with a broken hand and yadda yadda yadda. bhop was happy with a catch weight roy wasn't, bhop wanted 50 50 on the money roy wanted more...........good old roy didn't want the fight so it never happened, roy didn't fancy it, he just kept running.........................until father time beat him and tarver and johnson cleaned him, lots of boxing fans see him as a good boxer not a great fighter, avoiding the hopkins fight takes the glow off his legacy
off the two men bernard hopkins name seems to still be up in lights and even now they can't work things out
Then you must call Oscar a runner too for pricing himself out of fights.Originally Posted by nuclear bull
Why can't Roy ask for 60-40 to fight a rematch for someone he beat? He accepted less when he fought Griffin the second time why can't Hopkins do the same
Oscar on the other hand gets away with that stuff, he wanted more then Mosley in the first fight(and got it) he wanted more money in the second fight even though he lost the first and he got it. He even wanted more money in the third fight and Mosley said hell with you I want to fight the best in this division(Winky Wright)
Why can't Roy ask 60-40? Tell me that.
And Hopkins still hasn't matched Roy historically and never will.
Roy was absolutely right in asking for 60-40.Oscar is the only fighter who can get away with it.
"60-40 get yo ass kicked!"
at that moment of time if they did fight as planned or atleast attempted to negotiate. RJJ would of humiliated the fukkkkk out of B-Hop. that was a prime prime RJJ and a B-Hop who was still reaching his prime.
also the truth of the matter is even with a 60-40 split they both would of made a crapload of money if that fight was made cause HBO etc would of PUMPED the hell out of that rematch!
Roy was 100% correct on demanding 60-40.Only Oscar could demand 50-50 or even 60-40 to a fighter he had already lost to.
