Default Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!

I'll preface what I have to say with this: Both Barrera and Marquez are at the top of the food-chain in the 130lb. division. It doesn't get any better with the guts and glory such as this. I sat on the couch over my friend's house and almost fell asleep with the lackluster (to put it mildly) under-card these jackasses had the audacity to put together for a PPV event.
I knew something was awry when Hopkins won by a lopsided decision against a very game Forbes. To top it off, officials at the Nevada State Athletic Commission were haplessly perusing the crack dens of Vegas to find 'judges' that would score the main event.
Hats off to both Barrera and Marquez for a thrilling bout on such a woefully dreadful card. Shame on the sport of sports for continually living up to its corrupt reputation, and in this case, exceeding its tar and feather image by putting incompetent, and possibly over-drugged, delusional simps at ringside to score the bout.
I would have even been satisfied with a draw or a 1 point discrepancy going either way to each fighter. Although I thought Barrera clearly won the fight, I could have swallowed a split decision going to Marquez.
Fact of the matter is this: Boxing has become a joke. With such grave injustices as decisions and scores such as this, we can only hope that fighters risk more, take additional chances and ultimately take any decisive factors away from 'judges' by going for broke, throwing caution to the wind, and fighting purely for the KO.
I'm sickened by such scandalous ineptitude and flagrant corruption, and my stomach is soured by what has happened tonight.
Manny, in his post-fight closing remarks, summarized this disgrace without pulling any punches. Lampley, the consummate diplomat and spinmeister that he is, attempted to reason the merits of such an unreasonable decision.
Champions like Barrera are made inside of the ring; champions like Barrera are rare commodities to the sport. It's disgusting and disgraceful to see one such man that has given so much to the sport and to his adoring fans be shafted in such a blatantly and outlandish way. The sport of boxing loves its heroes, but it's a disgusting testament to the wicked side of human nature when we so callously tear them down...Pathetic is a term that comes to mind. But that would be a gross understatement.

I hear you man. I just hope that those guys stick around long enough for H. Soto to get in that mix with the elites cause he definitely belongs.

Many more great fights to be made. Just gotta keep Nady away from those big fights.

It was a great fight. I was surprised when it wasnt even declared a split decision. I was sure 1 judge would have given it to JMM after a fight like that, but to hear those margins and at the point of not even knowing the winner, I was extremely sickened....

The 7th round was great, but tarnished by judicial incompetence and the judges were well off. We ALL agree that the fight was extremely close. Even those that think JMM edged it think so. Those that think Barrera won think so. So to get 118-109 is a fallacy of the highest order. Absolutely criminal!!

I think JMM won most of the rounds he was putting more punches together throwing combos connecting... MAB used his jab and kept firing off from there.....
I don't man! I mean I think JMM was busier and when they traded JMM got the better of the exchanges for ALMOST all of the round MAb trieddf to wi nthe roufnds by wining mthe last 30 secind of the round while JMM had won IMO the rest fo the round....

I'm watching the fihght right now and he does over and over.... MAB looked good and certainly won some rounds and I personally don't think Barrera-Marquez are a disgrace as yoiur title states on the thread..... But reading your post I don't think youo thjonk they are a disagrce YOU think the judges/scorecards are the disgarace sooo m,aybe you shoufld change the title of the thread to Barrera-Maruqez (The Scorecards are a disgrace) cause the way you have one would think thayt your sayifg the actual fghyters are the disgacre....

Yeah, I felt bad for Forbes. Hopkins won though and I am starting to get sick of "The Contenders" finding their way to HBO and Showtime.

Back at ya, Miles. My jaw dropped to the ground and I quickly bounced off my friend's couch in a state of disbelief when I heard 118-109. I wonder if the judge's purses were higher than the fighters in the ring. Great fight? Indeed. Lousy and disgraceful decision? The tape and punch-stats speak for themselves.

Boxing is always full of controversy. The way I see it, Marquez deserves the title yet we need to admit that boxing had become a thing for commercialism. Barrera is going to retire and they need a new hero for Mexico. They need to give Marquez a convincing win. Fans are always disillusioned after their hero lose in a fight whether it was fairly judged or not. That is life..... admit it and the anger will let go.

Of course, Rob. I can certainly excuse a night of getting a bit too pissed up and having alcohol impair your judgment. Try to explain away the punch-stats; try to explain away the fact that almost both of Marquez's eyes were swollen shut at the end of the fight while Barrera only had a little swelling under the right eye.
I'm not taking anything away from Marquez. He's a top-notch, highly skilled and ballsy boxer. It doesn't get much better than what we watched tonight.
There's no use playing semantics with the title of the thread, Rob. You read the post and know exactly what I was trying to say.

Certainly you're not attempting to say that Marquez pulled out a convincing win, are you? If so, I think we watched two entirely different fights.

Thank you for one of the best posts i have ever read on this board. I am still feeling sick at the scoring and result of this fight. No disrespect to Marquez, who fought beautifully, but the judging tainted this incredible fight. My heart goes out to Barrera...who despite all he has given to this sport...despite another gutsy and brilliant fight...gets SHAFTED and DISRESPECTED in such a way. A complete fucking joke.

I did not see the fight, but from those scores the fight was controlled by Marquez. It happens. Alot of people think because Morales is finished that his buddy Barrera will and should be also. so they might have hopes to end his career by decision.

I see people throwing out accusations of corrupt judging, but you have to ask yourself, why would corrupt judges favor Marquez??
Barrera is the bigger name. Barrera has the bigger fanbase. Barrera has made much more money for the state of Nevada over the years than Marquez has.
Barrera-Pacquiao II would be a bigger money maker for Vegas than Marquez-Pacquiao II. There is no incentive for judges to be biased or corrupt in favor of Marquez.

There are plenty of opportunites to criticize boxing for being corrupt, but I don't see how this is one of them.

Ok...lets say they are not corrupt...then i assume they must either be blind or complete fucking morons. The scoring for both De Leon fight and the main event where a travesty. Call it corruption, moronic, or just plain strange....it is unacceptable.

You think Geery Penalosa won the fight? Or you think the actual scores were bad?
