Ok. I'm to tired to go into that numbering business but....
There is no problem with Floyd facing Zab. Floyd was already signed onto the fight, and it was scheduled. New York really wanted to see the fight and so did HBO. That's why that fight happened and I don't remember to many people having problems with the fight.
Margarito is well deserving of his shot. But not on April 8. Margarito was locked into a date just a month and a half prior to that and Floyd was locked into April 8. The time when the cries for Margarito to fight Floyd really intensified for Floyd's November date. That's when both were free and really heightened when reports came out that Floyd was going to square off with Cintron. But Floyd did the right thing and faced the one guy with more legitimacy then Margarito, Baldomir. The linear champ. That wasn't exactly a travesty imo as it was a legit fight and I know that Floyd was uncomfortable with his situation with Arum. And for whatever reason he just didn't want Margarito at that time. I wouldn't necessarily call it ducking though. Especially when he bipassed Margarito for the linear champ.
Judah is the guy who did the real ducking. And who did Margo beat? Cintron was very highly rated at the time and the undercard of that ESPN PPV was bigger then the Mosley main event. Funny how that fight slipped everyone's memory.
As for no one wanting Margarito. I'll give some perspective. When Mayweather went on the Rome is Burning show on ESPN, a mainstream television program, one of the first questions he was asked was about Margarito. Floyd said that Margarito wasn't enough of a name but he was a big enough name to the producers. And every week on ESPN it was discussed on FNF, it was almost a soap opera. Brian Kenny was pretty vocal about Margarito being the worthy challenger as were others in studio. The Ring had Margarito as a worthy challenger and it was a fight that set the internet a buzz. Margarito has a huge mexican following and I'm not going to debate fan numbers but to say Margarito brings nothing for Floyd is absurd and completely off base. Floyd would certainly bring more, especially in terms of status but it wouldn't be the Floyd Mayweather show, not by a long shot.
Everyone is getting a bit carried away as most always do on this topic, but there wasn't any real "ducking" and Margarito isn't any sort of a "nobody." Nobody is debating Floyd's status as number 1 pound for pound and the demand for a Margarito fight wasn't derived here at Saddo's.
And on a quick aside, big ups to Margarito for taking this one. Doesn't take extensive searching to see how I felt about Margarito passing up Williams in favor of an easier opponent to preserve his body and a pay day like he was reported to have been doing. I honestly didn't think he had it in him to do it especially after the "who's Williams?" comment but he took it and even fought in court for it. Let's get this one on
Amat, i'll buy into that 100% mate.
I feel like a ton weight has just been lifted off my head.
Ah i noticed you beat me to it.... I was just about to askhow you think Williams fits into all this

Its all down to how Williams takes a whack.
My intuition tells me Williams gets up at 4am every morning for a reason... To fight little guys.
Tony is no little guy

That's why I asked because it's been one of those fights where I said Williams from the get go, and I was pretty confident in picking that. But then as time passed I got more and more uncertain everytime I thought out about it. Now it's pretty much a pick em fight for me. I still like Williams because I don't think the long punches of Margarito will have quite the desired effect and I'm not sure how many land but it's those sneaky punches like the uppercuts that worry me. Those have a lot of snap to em and I wouldn't be shocked to see Williams get rocked by one. Big step up for him.
CC 1304 Mick. Bed time now.
CC IN 24 aMAT,some fantastic points. Its good to see someone who's not a Margarito fan but acknowledges the truth. There are far far far too many people here that let their dislike for Tony cloud their thinking. They don't open their eyes, they just base whatever they say from their dislike which leads to clouded statements.
I really hope Tony wins and he SHOULD beat Williams but no doubt,it'll be a tough fight. And no doubt there will be idiots who will say Williams was a bum, over rated etc etc just as most do whenever Tony wins.
Real fans will know it's a big win first and second, there IS a reason why legends like Boom Boom Mancin,James TOney etc and respected boxing scribes like Rafael,Fischer all have Tony high in their rankings and respect him.I hope he shows EXACTLY why against Williams and when he beats Williams, that'll be YET another win over a dangerous, young hungry fighter and a 7th top 10 RING rated fighter, more than anyone else in the division. Need I say more?
Not me, and I'm, not saying anyone else said that either. I think someone else was a bit drunk when they read that.Originally Posted by Olympian904

I just want to know who Margo beat to deserve a shot?
As for Brian Kenny and Jim Rome...neither of them know much about boxing.
Mick, if you've seen me enough here, you'd know I'd tell you if I'd sc'd you. And that it would take a lot more than me disagreeing with you to do it. In any case, I thought as a mod you could tell anyway?Originally Posted by CutMeMicK
In any case, I see you cc'd me, so I'm getting you back. Note that that's CC 1607, rather than erasing sc 166 -- if you needed any more proof.
