Not since the days of Barry McGuigan has a boxer captured the public eye in Ireland as Bernard Dunne. He is the only boxer to date who has a contract to have all his fights shown live on national TV( in this case the the RTE Public Irish TV broadcast). When Dunne won the European junior featherweight title last year, the Point Theatre in Dublin sold out all its 7,500 seats and more than half a million TV viewers watched the live bout on RTE. Clearly, Bernard Dunne is a phenomenon that has revived boxing in Ireland.
