Don't agree with him on his whole "this is the last great fight"...but he makes some amusing observations about Floyd and Oscar.
Yeah, I read that article earlier. I sort of agree with Simmons. Boxing used to be a fabric of American society but American society has changed. Boxing fucked itself over anyway with all of these ABC organizations and greedy ass promoters. He was totally right about the great athletes just doing another sport as well too. There's really no one on the scene that can jumpstart the American market in boxing (which will always be the determinant for the sport's success). If Mayweather wins, he should fight a couple more fights. Mayweather could still make some pretty huge fights with Mosley, Cotto, and Hatton. It's sad to say but Cotto or any of the new blood don't have the potential to be a star in the US. They'll be stars within boxing but not to mainstream America like ODLH or on a much smaller scale, PBF. I knew that boxing was going down the drain when nobody really cares about the American Olympians. Jermain Taylor and Rocky Juarez got some buzz from their 2000 medal wins but nobody really cares about Andre Ward (who won Gold). It's almost sad.
