Default How Bad is the undercard of PBF v DLH?

With such a big fight coming up on May 5, Golden Boy Productions has done it again. A terrible undercard. Whenever has Golden Boy put together a great all around card? It hasn't. I'm hoping for great things with the main event, but Golden Boy can't continue to give us these garbage undercards.

This undercard is disappointing. I think Juarez will dominate his opponent.

Considering how big an event this is, and the fact that it's $55, they should have had at least one undercard fight that was good enough to be an HBO main event. Either a fight with a world champion (like Diaz-Freitas) or a fight between two top prospects (like Miranda-Pavlik).

I totally agree mate, for $55 there should be MUCH better undercards to watch at an event this huge. I think it's only £16(about $33-34 dollars)here though so I won't complain but I think American viewers get a bit of a raw deal sometimes.

Oscar should be ahamed for offering Ouma 50K. Oscar should be showcasing a guy like Ouma on the undercard and paying him a hell of a lot more than 50k

I guess the thinking behind it is that, anyone who is going to pay for this fight, will do so regardless of what is on the undercard, so Golden boy can save other potential money fights for other cards... But it sure isn't a way to appeal to the new fans turning in..Although many wouldn't get excited about anything but the main event, or even know who people like Miranda Pavlik Diaz etc are, it is stupid to have such a hyped and important card which could potentially produce not a single thrilling fight. I guess you never know, but it seems to me like Bautista and Juarez could very possibly just blast their opponents out.. Mind you if the main event turns out to be a thrilling fight, the undercard won't really make a bit of difference overall..

This is exactly right. CC. Richard Schaeffer basically said this in a boxingtalk interview a couple of days ago: people are going to buy this fight for the main event so we don't need a great undercard. These undercard fights aren't even worthy of being a boxing after dark main event. It's pathetic. And, as you point out, short-sighted. If this is the event that's supposed to bring non-boxing fans into the mix, this is a terrible way to do it. It's already not at all unlikely that the PBF/Oscar fight is not crowd-pleasing (I still think the most likely outcome is PBF pot-shots Oscar one punch at a time all night and cruises to an easy points victory, a la PBF/Baldomir -- not that ODH isn't better than Baldo, but I still think Floyd's too quick and defensive to get drawn into anything else, and he won't need to take risks to win on points). If on top of that the undercard sucks, they'll just end up turning people off to the sport.

Barrera - Juarez II was one of the best all around cards on paper we had in a long while. Look it up

Anyways, I like the undercard. I think people are going to be in for a thrill with Juarez - Hernandez. Hernandez will hang tough, he loves to counter on the inside and Juarez is no outside fighter. Hernandez - Escalante was a canidate for FOTY imo. Add Juarez and it just has some serious potential.

Ponce De Leon is one of the more exciting fighters out there, and I'm sure they could have marketed that fight alone for an HBO outing. They are really pushing him. Would have loved to have seen GBP get Bautista in there for PDL though.

Yeah rather shabby. Rather lucky that us brits dont have to pay for it. Im just going to crawl in from a heavy one clubbing to my sofa and flick on the main event!!
