    Default Pride vs UFC debate

I don't know if yall frequent any other MMA forums, but I visit Sherdog frequently but dont post. There are some very informed people there and lots of breaking news and insite. The site is also filled w/ MMA elitist that unless you've been following MMA since its inception and can name every fighters record both amateur and professional you are labeled a TUF noob(someone who had never watched mma until ultimate fighter) and your opinion is labeled as ignorant and baseless. There is also a huge amount Pride vs UFC hate. From both sides. It goes on and on. Since the merger was announced and many notable Pride fighters have lost against UFC fighters the hate has simmered, but its absurd. Instead of two great orgs with pro and cons every thread turns to a one is better than the other. Also it gets real confusing. It gets really obnoxious when they start comparing fighters of the org. Even though fighters like Barnett, baroni, coleman, wandy, metzger etc got there starts in the UFC they are Pride fighters, but this isn't the case for Nick Diaz. And even though fighters like CC, Hearing and nogs are in the UFC now they are still pride fighters. My question to yall is do you have a strong alliance to one org or the other? do you get into or care about the Org vs Org record? This crap baffles me.

    it's ridiculous.

And no, I like both. but I do feel that in general, the level of fighters in pride is a bit better. (not at welterwight though...UFC is STACKED in that div.)

Message board hate is useless. I used to post on F1forums.net but all the whiney fuckers did wash bash any driver that wasn't their favorite. That's ALL IT WAS. I finally emailed the admin saying I'd love to write some articles or help you edit some (after he asked me to help out) but I can't take this place no more. you've attrated the biggest bunch of fuckin bitches on the internet.

It is rediculous. my main sport and passion is MMA. I enjoy both orgs. Although I prefered Pride, as I thought the 'overall' talent was better, and I liked the rules more.

The main forum (an mma forum) I post on is MMA.tv. The do the tuf noob thing there as well. but for the most part, if you provide intelligent posts it's not so bad.

I must say, this is a great forum. this is only the second time I've been on here. But the posts don't seem to be negative and attacking. I think it is great that there is an MMA section, and the differences are just that differences. they don't turn into personal attacks. I really didn't expect an mma section on a boxing forum, as most boxers and boxing fans I've come across hates on mma.

anyway, great board. glad found it.

    <----- TUF noob

Always watched, just never followed. And I also lurk quite a bit at Sherdog. Actually learned a fair bit.

Anyways, I don't get into the Org vs Org thing. My main thing is I don't agree with kicking the head on the ground (makes me cringe) and I think the cage is better for the quality of the fights. I don't know about the stronger talent pool though.

I will say that I think the champions from the UFC, Cotoure, Liddell, Silva, Hughes and Sherk if matched up against Fedor, Henderson, Gomi/Diaz/Misaki, that I think with the exception of Fedor, I would favor all the UFC champs. But Pride has some tremendous depth and that's why they are able to put on such great cards from top to bottom.

But to pit the organizations against each other is fairly...well stupid. It doesn't have to be 1 or the other. I think a lot of it stems from bitterness. So many in mainstream America think UFC is the sport, and that Pride is kickboxing or something. The sport is called Ultimate Fighting by a lot instead of it's proper name and of course Dana White and the UFC doesn't do much to steer it the other way.

Hope UFC and Pride both being controlled by Zuffa puts an end to this.

It really is a since of elitism amongst alot of Shedog posters. They've been craving for MMA to gain wide spread attention and acceptance, but now that it has they feel like they've lost some exclusivity to the sport. It's rather childish. If you want to expand your fanbase you have to accept that they will be less informed than long time fans. It reminds me of a buddy of mine that used to listen to a band called Godsmack( who is also one of my favs). Anyway he had been listening to the band well before it became big. Now that they are a top rock band he can't stand them. Hes a bit of a music snob. I've always felt that UFC top 1-3 fighters per div could compete w/ Pride's top, but there was little denying that top to bottom that Pride has better fighters. This is partly due to Dana's attempt to sign North American fighters and less international fighters to appease his less MMA educated fanbase. With a bigger pool of fighters to choose from I hope UFC will start putting on deeper fight cards. I personally like the cage and the five minute rounds. I'm rather indifferent to stomps and soccer kicks but I would like to see knees on the ground allowed. UFC/Pride have a chance to do something great for their sport lets hope they don't blow it.
