Default wILL A flOYD WIN MAKE HIM A MEGA STAR?

I was just wondering if you guys thought that a Floyd win would make a massive star in boxing. I mean right now,he's pretty well known but he does not have the mainstream appeal of Oscar,Mosley etc. Will he become a true star? He certainly has the skills to become one.

As far as his legacy goes a win over Oscar at the bigger weight puts him up their with the likes of SRL imo.
    No question!

It definately should do...But as far as the mainstream recognition is concerned i think it'l depend on how he wins..

I mean de la hoya is the true ppv star..

And bieng one of the stil active legends of the sport he is up there with Jones jr, hopkins etc

But they were never really big ppv stars.. They never sold em like oscar did..

So you gotta think..This fight has to impress not only us but the general public.. Its gotta be pure watchability..

But at the same time the arguement i have with myself is.. So what happens if mayweather goes out there and beats de la hoya in a truely exciting match..

Can he do as he say he will and retire..After getting all the recognition and finally having that one big exciting fight can he just call it quits and leave the game when he is stil in tip top shape and at his best healthwise, experiance wise etc..

Its interesting to compair Pbf to someone like Bernard hopkins!..
Hopkins another P4p great.. and has been in his shoes of p4p number 1..
But the difference on the surface between them is theyr attitude towards the sport..
Bernard said this is my final fight..But couldnt stay away, and it wasnt shocking because bernard can stil do the business and he may as well use it while he can and have great fights...

But i cant imagine floyd doing the same.. He can still do the business but it wouldnt suprise me one bit if he were to win, up and leave the game and never come back..

If this fight makes him a mega star..Then imo retirement would cut his legacy in half..
Hes always wanted to be recognised and uncriticised as the best, and wanted to be a ppv star..
It will be a huge waste to win big and become a giant figure in the sport and not use it to his advantage by retiring..

Disagree. He HAS tried much harder than Oscar BUT..its Oscar. You just say his name,it guarantees HUGE $$$. I don't think this one win will elevate Floyd into the company of SRL,no way.He needs more names, but it'll certainly enhance his resume much much more.

I don't think so he would need win over Sugar Shane Mosley before he gets up that far.

HBO has played this one perfectly for Floyd, I can tell you that much. Now it's up to him to fulfill their plan by beating ODLH. They've obviously set up 24/7 to hype the fight but they've given the world a chance to take a look at Floyd in another light. They could have easily played the hero (ODLH) and villian (Mayweather) but with the second show they've made it interesting. They've started showing off Floyd's insecurities, his cockiness to cover it up. He's a multidimensional personality with several people pulling at him and I think people are seeing that it's not so easy being Floyd. They've showed that he's not just some primadonna but he's that good because he works harder than anyone else. Hell, to be honest, nobody really cares about Oscar's parts. People have been talking about Mayweather, Mayweather's family, Freddie Roach, and Shane Mosley. I mean come on, they filled about four minutes taking about ODLH's hands with his hands man? That's fucking boring, gimme a fucking break. I understand that what goes on in the ring is most important but Floyd really is selling this fight. You can tell from 24/7 that HBO wants the world to see Floyd as a true personality and a true star. Floyd based off of his last three PPVs was already the second biggest earner in the sport behind ODLH, with a win, he will be a PPV star. That's why I'm hoping that Floyd not only beats Oscar but embarrasses him on this big stage.

Depends on how he wins, IMO. If he wins by decision, especially a close one, there will be no change to his image and/or ranking. If he dumps DLH on his back, now we're talking mega star territory.

What makes you say that? His age? He looked pretty good in his last fight, even if it WAS against a "Tito-damaged" Mayorga. But DLH has never been badly beaten in a fight. Hopkins' glancing liver shot actually saved DLH from some major damage had the fight gone on. Other than that, you can't compare DLH to someone like, say...... a MAB or a Gatti, when it comes down to the number of wars. So why is DLH over the hill?

i disagree he looked slow and robotic in his last outing...ok so he got the win, but it wasnt the golden boy of old........

and for the record DLH will get his a$$ handed to him ( ill still be rooting for him) but he aint good enough anymore to beat lighting fast mayweather

What you saw as "slow and robotic", I saw as DLH knowing that Mayorga was shot, and fighting accordingly. He knew Mayorga was going to be susceptible to straight shots, and that his beating by Tito had taken a lot out of him. So he went straight at Mayorga. His punches were faster, crisper, and straighter than Mayorga's.

As for your prediction, we're on opposite sides of the fence there, also. I'm rooting for a devastating Mayweather KO victory, but I'm convinced that Floyd can't hurt Oscar at 154, and that will allow Oscar to be bolder and press the action on Floyd. And whereas Floyd can't hurt Oscar at 154 (IMO), I'm pretty sure Oscar can hurt Floyd if he catches him just one time with a good hook. (I'll be hoping like hell that THAT doesn't happen).

Part of it depends on how he wins. If he delivers a masterful performance, he could definitely become a full-blown star.
I disagree that Floyd doesn't have the mainstream appeal of Mosley.
Shane never became a star. Even after he beat DLH the first time and was considered by some #1 or #2 PFP, he never had a PPV fight where he was the big attraction. I believe the only times he ever was on PPV were the Oscar fights and the Vargas fights, and in both cases the opponent was the guy who was the bigger draw. Floyd has headlined the Judah and Baldomir cards, which both drew good crowds and were on PPV.
Mosley is exactly what Floyd is trying to avoid becoming..... a great boxer with no widespread appeal.
