anyone who retires before they take a beating which is tied to getting older retired at the right time. Hagler, Lennox,McGuigan,Tito, Hopkins would have retired at a great time after Tarver.. But he had to comeback, and that is why the Wright fight is really the Wrong fight. Do not mean to be Larry Merchant there.

Marvin Hagler. Even though he did go out on a sour note, he still went out with that aura of invincibility that he had. Never stopped, never knocked down, with his last fight being very controversial. I'm glad he went out that way, rather than him getting old and getting stopped by subpar opposition, and going out that way.

Yep Lennox, Hagler and Marciano
Wouldn't say Hamed went at right time - I think his career short changed us boxing fans
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Hagler, Lewis, Rosenblat, Van Horn and Quiroga
True... If anything I'd say Naz retired too early.Originally Posted by Mark TKO

Dariusz Michalczewski...lost his first fight after 48 wins against Julio Cesar Gonzalez...
then after 16 month gives it another try against Fabrice Tiozzo, gets knocked out and
says "Thats it..." ...
Still great career...nearly ten years champion 50 fights 48 wins...
I liked Dariusz...
Btw he honest enough to say that for 10 million euro he would step into the ring again...
He really did...

Tito. I would like to think you are right. But Hopkins is 42 years old and for a guy below heavyweight that is very old. The thing which is in his favor is that Wright has been fighting for years and he might be a little diminished.
I think we're up for seeing a great fight in hopkins - winkyOriginally Posted by LegendBoxing65

I cant think of an occasion in which bernard has truely got hit hard..
He's a defensive great..Even james toney who is or at least was a defensive god has been hit flush with giant heavyweight shots..(Lucky for him toney has a chin of steel)
But i really cannot think of a time when hopkins has taken a beating..
He has trained like its religion for what seems like forever.. His work ethic is only matched by few people Pbf for one..
If you catch my drift he's a young 42..The way in which he boxed and took apart his opponents in his biggest fights is the thing thats saved his youth..
Come fight night there will be no excuses for either fighter..I truely beleieve this..
Whether winky win or Bhop win..You couldnt take a thing away from either guy
Peace

The thing about Hopkins is that he said before his mother died, he swore to her that he would not box past the age of 40. He made it very clear that his word meant everything (expecially to his mother), and if he started going back on his word he wouldn't be a real man.
As a boxing fan and as a fan of Hopkin's, it is cool to still see him around because obviously he is not the average 42 year old, he has aged incredibly well, but for him to break his promise to his mother even though he swore he wouldn't... that's pretty bad imo.
