Default I give thid to Floyd...He Made This the Hype Machine it is...

Win or lose I have to say this about Floyd...He is the one who has turned this into the hype machine it has become.....

Reguardless of who either fight they will attract a large crowd...

Oscar De La Hoya and PPV go hand in hand...He will have high numbers if he fought a local grocery store bag boy....

The two of them going at it are going to generate higher numbers just due to who they are and the fact they are fighting each other BUT!!!!!

Without Floyd's antics there would be no one to dis like in this bout.....Floyd put the BUZZZ in the atmosphere...he put the anticipation into the count down waiting to see what happens...Giving that edge of the seat feeling....

Though I want Oscar to win on sheer fact Floyd just won't shut up about himself.....

I give all the credit to Floyd for selling this fight....It would have sold high either way but he turned up the volume bringing the Bout from huge to MEGA!!!!!

Anyone want to take bets some how he ends up as part of Goldenboy??...SWeems like everyone else who has fought Oscar has lol

I don't think PBF had nearly the impact he thinks he does. His ppv numbers aren't good, and he hurt himself because win or lose he's not gonna get many more fans after his antics. I think he could have made some more fans and come out as a hero if he showed a little humility and just showed his story. Instead he keeps talking about money and crap that only rappers and kids are impressed with. In my opinion he screwed the pooch... The fight would have had just as much drama without him acting a fool. See he could have talked trash to ODH and said I'm gonna ko him, etc... But his interviews and all the other garbage just made him look like a clown. He was gonna be the bad guy in this fight no matter what, but he could have just been the bad guy in the ring, instead he made himself the bad guy all around. That's my opinion.....

And you can't pronounce yourself as being a legend and get respect. It's like some fool in high school making up his own nickname.... You just look like an ass even if it's a good nickname.

    I think you're wrong.
If he came out all good and humble, there wouldn't even be a 24/7 show.
It'd just be another Oscar fight to those outside of boxing.
Which is a spectacle in it's own right, but not the huge machine it is now.
Where's the excitement in good guy vs. another good guy?
No, the world thrives on good guy vs. bad guy stories.
If Floyd wins now, he has a name for himself outside of boxing fans.
People will remember him as Floyd Mayweather.
Not just "another guy that Oscar fought".
Could he have gained more fans by being a good guy? Possibly.
But who would remember him outside of boxing after the fight?
He has notoriety now. Controversy sells.
People are gonna be wondering what he does after this fight now. They'll wanna know about his next fight whether they love or hate him.

A fighter is judged ultimately soley on what he does in the ring, as is any athlete in their respective sport. 15 years from now, especially if Floyd wins tonight, he will unanimously be hailed as an all time great.

    Great point .

I know Floyd was going for the bad guy image to Oscar's obvious good guy but come on.... He doesn't even carry himself as a true champion that deserves your respect and admiration.

Ray Leonard didn't have to run around like an ignorant little child to sell fights he steeped up like and man and said I'm better stronger and faster than this man and i'll prove it by fighting his toe to toe thats all we need as fans the gurantee the fighter will make it enertaining and back up his words

Unlike what PBF pulled in the Baldomir fight.

He set himself up to be hated if he wins or loses DLH fans will say he ran (which he will) and fought Oscar when he was past his prime and should he lose forget it he'll have DLH's name starpped to him like a 10 ton anchor for the rest of his career, lose lose sitution for Floyd

Sorry dude, but you're on the @ss end of this argument. It's win-win for Floyd. Win (he's getting far over $20 million). Win(even though he's favored, the majority of people buying this fight are not hard core fans, who don't know that Oscar's best days are behind him). Win(already the biggest non-heavyweight ppv in history in presales alone, so if he wins, he'll do it in front of the biggest audience ever). And win (he's always been hated, do you honestly think he gives a sh!t if he doesn't gain more fans ) Sorry hater boy, Floyd's got it made tonight and you can't stand it

this fight has such a tremendous hype because it pits two of the greatest fighters of this era. i can't help but think that the amount of pay-per-view buys added by mayweather's antics is marginal. most sports fans are into this because of the caliber of the fighters. that Mayweather has millions of dollars and is totally set for life is one more reason why his antics were in poor taste; he sold some of his dignity and class for the sake of getting another 1/2 million or million in his pocket? perhaps there is a contradiction here as well in that Mayweather conveys to us that what are large sums of money for all of us regular people are chicken feed for him. lastly, to be honest, while i try not to judge people, i'm skeptical that Mayweather could remain classy in anything but short spurts even if he wanted to.

You're on the @ss end of the argument with the money aspect, both guys are very well off and don't need this fight to pay the bills. This is a historic fight to cement their status but the way floyd carried himself throughtout the prefight hoopla he set himslef up to be hated either way, real fight fans won't accept/embrass him as their champion.

To be considered a real Champ you have to at least have an ounce of class and dignity which Floyd absoluty doesn't have he'll never get the respect as the best ever playing the role of Roy Jones little @sshole brother minus the entertainment value Roy had doesn't work

First, when SRL fought Hearns there was a good guy and a bad guy. When SRL fought Hagler there was a good guy and bad guy, when SRL fought Duran there was a good guy and a bad guy. Hell, when ODH fought JLC there was a good guy and bad guy.

My point is still the same. PBF COULD have stayed the bad guy in the ring, by talking trash. I don't have a problem with the trash talk, that's part of the game.... Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes, everyone talks trash. I think PBF showed himself to be a classless immature person. Aside from the trash talk. I think he hurt himself permanently in the public eye.

And anyone who thinks PBF has so much money he isn't in danger of being broke, is naive and ignorant of history. Mike Tyson made a hell of a lot more money than PBF and he's broke. All it takes is some unreported gambling winnings, and an IRS audit, or a couple bad bets, helping out some family members, etc.... It doesn't take long to lose money.

PBF gets a little respect from me for his performance tonight. He squeaked out the win, but he needs to shut his mouth to get real respect. Cause I think he's a punk with tremendous boxing skills, but he won't be getting endorsements, and he's gonna have a hard time in business with his attitude.
