Default MAYORGA... A FLASH IN THE PAN ?

    By Jim Amato

Tito looked even more awesome watching it the second time around on HBO. Once Trinidad realized he take Mayorga's best shots, he just busted him up. A real power punching clinic. Mayorga was dead game but simply overmatched. Mayorga moved up TWO weight divisions for this fight. Smart move ? In hindsight, no but... a GREAT payday and now a probable retirement.

Talk about a shooting star ! Mayorga came out of nowhere and KO's "Six Heads" Lewis for a piece of the welterweight title. Then he bombs out Vernon Forrest, the man who defeated Shane Mosley who beat DeLaHoya. Then Ricardo beats Forrest again ! It looks like he's going to be around for a while. He's high on everyone's Pound For Pound list.

Next thing you know he is outboxed and upset by the clever Cory Spinks. Then the Trinidad debacle and just like that, it's over. So sad but that's boxing.

Now that was a great post there Saddo! I really thought that Tito looked super of what I saw of him the first time back with Mayorga! That was a great fight and Mayorga sure has nothing to be pissed about he fought one hell of a fight from what I saw that Saturday night! I really see Tito Trinidad as a true middle now after that layoff and when he came back he walked into the ring almost like he had never been gone Im serious! Hey thats straight out I know that Mayorga was coming to win but weight issues really put strain on the man from jump street! They came in way over weight a hole 10 or 15pounds why? I mean it isn't like Team Trinidad had time to do anything except trust in there training that had already been done and they were ready to go already and went for it and came out of it looking tops! But yea I think Mayorga may have just already had his flash in the pan my friend! ! !

Yeah I've said before he's done. He can be outboxed . Add the power of a guy 2 weight divisions higher and you get KTFO. Tito did what he should have and as good as he looked, remember he was fighting a smaller guy with no skill that depended on his power to win fights, and when that was taken away from him well.........

Don't you worry guys. Mayorga is coming back to fight Javier Castillejo for a Jr. Middleweight championship belt. He's been training harder than ever and has been focusing only on boxing. He'll be back stronger than ever.

No he is NOT! He is a throw back warrior. Mayorga would still be champ if he had not been screwed over by those atlantic city judges in that track meet of a fight with Cory Sphinx. I'm sorry but sphinx did not win that fight. He did NOT box. That was not boxing. Pernell whitaker was a boxer, RJJ was the best boxer, Meldrick Taylor was a boxer, kassim Ouma is a boxer, Winky is a boxer, Sphinx is a frikin runner! And I think Vernon did a hell of a lot better job of Boxing Mayorga the second fight than sphinx did. and he LOST that fight. Mayorga could have made for some legendary fights at welterweight against Margirito and Mosely, and now Judah. He still can be Undisputed Champ again, he just needs to get back down to Welterweight where he belongs. Will he? I sure hope so.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

Incredibly, I happen to agree with you on this topic. How can Mayorga be called a flash in the pan? He beat Vernon Forrest not once, but twice, and is a tough and gallant warrior. People are too quick to dis fighters based on their last showing. If Mayorga wants to come back, I for one will welcome him. He's wonderfully exciting to watch.
