Thread: Taylor's only real option is to fight Kelly Pavlik

I just got off my dinner at work and I was reading an article in this week's boxing news. They make the great point that the best option for Jermain Taylor is to fight Kelly Pavlik.

If you think about it, Taylor didn't do anything against Spinks to justify the $6m he craves in order to fight Calzaghe, and to be honest, I think alot of people's interest in him has rapidly faded after some pretty poor snooze fests. However, if he wants to make the money and keep the public interested in him, he should fight Pavlik, as Pavlik is who all the talk is about and if Taylor beats him in a great fight, he can redeem some of the public interest he lost.

If Taylor wants to "make the most money"...in the long run, fighting Pavlik is the only fight that can bring that to him.

It makes sense or Calzaghe to fight the winner of Wright/Hopkins and JT to fight Pavlik. Then Joe can fight JT if they both win.

The problem is not that that is sure to happen like that. I think it would be smart to JT to make a fight NOW with Calzaghe if it can be made. I think he'll make more off a big fight with Joe than a defense against Pavlik, and he stands a pretty good chance of losing either fight.

If Taylor does'nt get motivated and soon Pavlik will be king of the middleweights Taylor did most of his aggressive work after the spinks fight shouting at the camera he has to start been positive

Pavlik is the only fighter Taylor should be concerning himself with. And concerned he should be...he needs to raise his game...

This will be an awesome fight either Taylor kisses canvas or he raises his game and gives a boxing masterclass like we know he can and perhaps even takes Pavlik out this could be a superfight

I couldnt agree more. It certainly wouldnt be a snoozer and thats what Taylor needs in his career. The Spinks fight was just awful. I actually started to cheer on Spinks despite picking Taylor. Taylor sucked!

Taylor COULD fight Pavlik....I'd like that but a Calzaghe fight at 168 would be good too

I still think AA is a bigger fight at MW for him than pavilk, AA is a much better boxer than kelly, may not be as big a punche rbut his all round gae is streets ahead, i feel he has improved alot since the miranda fight too...

Whislt pavilk finished the miranda fight in finer style, styles do make fights...

The only reason AA beat Miranda is because all the cheap shots and penalties that Miranda had.Other than that AA lost. This is a guy that Pavlik murdered. It just doesn't add up. Taylor fighting a guy that won a controversial win against a guy that was murdered by Pavlik.

Most of us has been thinking the same. (Well, at least I have). After Pavlik's last win on a big stage, against a good opponent, his stock has risen dramatically. As for Taylor, well we know where his stock is going. Taylor has already proved that he can box, with his fights against BHOP and Wright, regardless of who people think really won. He needs the beast to come out, and he needs a "war" type fight, or a devastating KO, against a good opponent, or at least put on a boxing "clinic" against a bigger stronger guy. Pavlik, will force Taylor to "fight' IMO. And if Taylor was to get a win, against a bigger opponent who's not just looking to out-point him, but KO his azz, his stock will go back up alot IMO. I think Taylor is getting over-confident, and wants to rush to rush to the big money. I feel that he has the skills, but something is missing, and he needs to be pushed. Hopefully this fight happens, because win or lose, we will either have Taylor, who will still be champ, but with renewed interest, or we will have a new, "exciting", middleweight champ. I feel this fight is good for the game, and for the middleweight division. Even though I'll be rooting for Pavlik, i feel Taylor will rise to the occasion. After getting wins, and a draw against 2 of the best, you can't follow up with just popular names.

I would like to see taylor fight winky again, ut on one condition... he actualy fucking TRYS.... honestly ( i could be wrong) taylor would cleary beat winky, ouma and fuckign spinks if he had the hunger... i get so pissed off with taylor sometimes coz the kid has some damn good skills... he just seems such a lazy fucker

i swear if taylor had to fight any of those on the condistion it he got paid if he won he would put on a great showing... he just iis so lax-a-dazy its fristtraing coz u know what he can really do

That fight wouldnt spark anything for boxing. I dont want to watch to guys dance around a ring. I want to see blood. Boxing needs fights like this were there are knockouts. Not 12 round dancing sessions.

if u want tpo see blood ur in the wrong sport iMO...

whilst people compareboxing to mma boxing comes out top every day of the week...

mma is a bloodsport whislt boxer can box thier way to a 12 round fight and ill love it, mma can split thier aponent open and it wont prove a damn thing only that a person is vunerale to getting sparked (excuse the splleing im blasted)
