Default "World Cup of Boxing" on Aug. 11th (Mexico vs. Philippines)

Hey guys i was just snooping around boxrec (although sometimes unreliable) and it says that Rey "boom boom" Bautista (23-0 17ko's) will be facing of against Daniel Ponce De Leon (31-1 28ko's)
on August 11!! is it just me or does this sound great!! i really think that both are good fighters but i think that De Leon wins this one. any opinions??

Mike I used your post to do this so I didn't have to start a new thread.....

Golden Boy Promotions will hold their second "World Cup of Boxing" on August 11 at Arco Arena in Sacramento. The "Mexico vs. Philippines" showdown will feature WBO bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez against former world champion Gerry Penalosa, WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon will go up against Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and Miguel "Mickey Mouse" Roman against a Filipino opponent to be named.

The runner daniel "coward" ponce de leon was undeservingly awarded a victory for throwing so many punches in the air..there was never an instant that penalosa was clearly hit in the face in any round...most of his punches were blocked by the arms and gloves of penalosa..in contrast penalosa snapped the head of de leon on several occasions

LOL! DID YOU SEE PONCE WEARING DARK GLASSES TO COVER HIS SWOLLEN EYES. PONCE DID THROW LOTS OF PUNCHES BUT 80% OF THEM ARE GLANCING BLOWS. Gerry's own were SOLID and CRISPIER.. And to support my claim, Ponce never put Gerry in trouble. IS THAT THE BEST PONCE CAN DO? DANCE HIS WAY OUT OF TROUBLE in the closing rounds. He doesn't have much power then as you portray him to be. If Ponce did dominate the fight, where is the KO? or even an standing 8 count?

the Ponce de Leon fight the same way I did. I asked myself at the end of the fight, "And this guy won because of what? Ineffective output?" The veteran Penalosa schooled him. 90% of PDL's shots were caught by his gloves, and Penalosa would answer back with telling blows, smacking the younger and larger man around! If they were similar in size, and Penalosa had more power he would have put the kid to sleep...

Boom2x wins by late round KO.

i tell you something i agree with you when you say that he got an undeserving win over Penalosa but that does not change the fact that he is fighting Bautista! i think that he will make it right this fight.
i think its a better mach up for De Leon to fight against Bautista. He is not fighting all that experience he had to fight against Penalosa. (by no way an i saying that Penalosa is better that Bautista) but when these two fighters with their styles meet i think De Leon will look really good! Just a feeling

boom boom is such a young fighter and golden boy is riding him too heavy, its ok fighters of the philippines are use to this. Unlike the other fighters around the world them boys in the P.I dont' give a damn they fight anyone young or old, undefeated or not they just fight.

but if goldenboy was any smarter they should give boom boom a break let him beat on lesser fighter for now since his so young because he can really be BIG in the future. GOLDENBOY is putting boom boom in jeapordy by not giving him time to improve, they are just sending him out there i guess they don't really give a damn because his filipino or do they expect him to be tough enough to remain undefeated because his from the P.I even at his age

ooh by the way fwock GOLDENBOY PROMOTIONS

Penosala is schooled, crafty and smart. Bautista is raw, untested and odoes the same thing over and over.

His fight versus Medina was probably worse then Ponce's honestly. His punches didn't look to carry to much power, his legs were set very wide when he moved in which threw off his balance and he didn't have much power.

And he moved in the same way every time, he would feint in, take a short step out and then lunge in way to far after that little short step. Not the hardest to time, he did it from rounds 1 to 12.

De Leon KO by left hook.

CC, I agree pretty much completely.
I just looked on boxrec and it says Bautista is only 20 yrs old?!? Why rush him into a title shot in which he could possibly be ruined? It would make more sense (in my mind) so ease hin along a little more - why rush things? He didn't look all that impressive against Medina, and De Leon can punch like a mofo. A brutal KO could possible destroy all the confidence and potential that exist within Bautista, I don't get this.
Could it be because Bautista, as he ages, will have difficulty staying at such a low weight?

Boom2x got big heart. The ref gave him the 8 count standing KD - he refuses to go down against Medina.

Boom2x retaliated with his 2nd big KD, that I think made him won the fight.

I was impressed by his performance that night.

DeLeon punches are very predictable. They're so wide.

It's only the punch that you don't see that will hurt you.

The DeLeon-Penalosa fight is a good blueprint for Bautista to succeed.

Well it's pretty simple, Medina wasn't that good. He had heart but he wasn't nearly as aggressive enough against a guy who was really there to be picked off with those predictable movements. I don't even know why they would ever match De Leon with Penosala. Penosala is very good. He would have beaten Bautista too imo.
