Punch Power: 18 | | sven ottke how good of a "boxer" was has?
Ok, i havn'tfollowd this guys career in detial, and i aint sure how many of you lot have either..
but, looking at his record it aint to bad... now sure he lost 3-5 fights and got the home town win... but as a boxer how good was he? this is a guy who could not punch for SHIT but took some very big punchers to a damn close call...
he had to have a great defence considering he had to get through the big hits to win the rounds..
Anyone following his fights avidly who could educate me/us? |

Got his share of hometown calls but so has a guy like calzaghe.
Was good in the unpaid ranks also , i think him and JC should have fought it really is stupid when rival champs never meet

Mundine: "I've seen the way he fights, he hits like a girl."
POST-FIGHT:
Mundine: "Don't mean a thing to me, there's always next time.
He still hits like a girl."
Ottke: "Then...you just got beaten by a girl."
HAHA!

Punch Power: 2 | | Re: sven ottke Ottke was an excellent boxer. Nothing special to look at physically and quite a dull style. But very good defence and high work rate with light but technically correct scoring punches. Also because of his correct technique he did score a couple of one-punch KOs even though he had a low KO percentage.
Some of the decisions may have gone the other way had he been fighting in the US but decisions are debatable. He was never beaten nor seriously hurt throughout his career and also went to three Olympics as an amateur without winning a medal. |

Punch Power: 2 | | Re: sven ottke well mundine bacically gave up. ottke didnt hit mundine hard ,he was just to exhausted nto get up.
....now how good was ottke? just ok! mundine had only 9 pro-fights under his belt and was dominating ottke, winning every round until he gassed out due to inexperience

Punch Power: 8 | | Re: sven ottke You can not call Calzaghe's win against Robin Reid as home town. They thought in England. Reid is English whilst Calzaghe is Welsh.
It may have been lucky (I did not see the fight so can not comment) but not home town.
Now to the question. Otke was a decent boxer, very active (fought almost every 3 or so months), but extremely boring. Will never be a great in my eyes but he did remain unbeaten, in the record books.

Ottke turns 40!
Sunday, June 3 2007
Happy Birthday Sven Ottke. One of the few world champion boxers to go undefeated his entire career, Ottke turns 40 today. In March 2004, Ottke retired unbeaten as reigning IBF/WBA super middleweight champion. Starting boxing at the relatively late age of 14, Ottke learned his craft during a long 335-fight amateur career in which he competed in the 1998, 1992 and 1996 Olympics. Ottke was nearly 30 when he turned pro in 1997, however, within 17 months he had dethroned IBF world champion Charles Brewer in only his 13th pro fight. Promoted by Sauerland Event, Ottke went on to defend the IBF belt a record 22 times. He added the WBA belt in a unification bout against Byron Mitchell in 2003 and defended that belt four times. Ottke ended his career with an umblemished record of 34-0. He had only six knockouts, the most memorable being against current WBA super middle titlist Anthony Mundine. Today, Ottke lives in Karlsruhe, Germany and plays lots of golf in his spare time.

Also a welsh fighter can't beat an english man in england and get the home own win it isn't his home town. |
