I agree.
Tito had to starve himself to make 147, he was right to leave that division.
154 is another story, but I can understand Tito chasing the big $$$ and going for the undisputed middleweight crown.
Off course i can understand the desire to go after the big bucks but i may have been wise to stay at 154
It was reminiscent of Hearns stepping up against Hagler
If he had stayed at 154lbs and not gone upto Middleweight he would have remained unbeaten but then he would'nt be a 3 weight champ. But i would have liked him to stay at 154lbs Trinidad vs Mosely would have been good
Cotto vs Tito would of been good shame he did move up also Mosley vs Cotto.
all fighters who can punch usually punched harder at the weight they became famous. But you could say Thomas Hearns should have stayed at Welt. or Super Middleweight. But then we would not have had Hagler/Hearns or Hearns/Hill or Hearns/Barkley or Hearns/Leonard rematch. It shows how good a fighter is in how he can move up and keep beating top fighters. At first I thought Tito carried his power and style well to middleweight when he beat Joppy, but since then the two top guys beat him. He has fared ok, but not great moving up. But I think it was something he had to do.Originally Posted by DarkDestroyer
I can't see how the weight increase made that big a difference. He wasn't defeated by a power differential, the guys he lost to were just far better boxers, skillwise and strategywise.
Now that we are on the subject, I remember a lot of complaining from the Tito camp about not getting a rematch against Hopkins, but I don't recall what Trinidad had to say about a rematch against de La Hoya, at that time. Anyone?
excellent question zzz. CC
i doubt he would have remained unbeaten, cause then sooner or later the Winky Wright loss would have happened no matter what, especially since they would have ended up unifying, also I'm pretty damn sure that there would have been a DLH rematch and there is no way in hell that he would have won the rematch against Oscar, and Mosley well i think that Shane could of held his own with TitoOriginally Posted by TYSONBRUNO
I always saw this as a tough fight for Mosley. I am not sure Mosley could have gotten out of the way of the left hook of Tito. Something tells me Tito would have stopped Mosley in 8 rounds or so.Originally Posted by ElTerribleMorales

147 Tito's power was vicious.
154 Tito's power was at it's best! Vargas, Reid and even Thiam were all victims in this weight class.
I agree. Tito needed to stay at 154 but we all have to remember, the money was @ 160.
Problem is for a guy to move up shows guts and in my mind adds to the legacy if he is successful. I always thought Marvin Hagler was a great middleweight, but the fact is that you have to take into consideration that he fought welterweights and one lightweight moving up as his legacy fights. Meaning his legacy is built on the Hearns,Duran,Leonard fights and not the Fully Obel or Tony Sibson fights. Thomas Hearns and Ray Leonard welt. Duran Lightweight. I still would have loved to have seen Hagler fight Michael Spinks. As some of you can tell I think alot about Michael Spinks. I always thought he found a way to win and land the Spinks Jinx.. And when Michael Spinks was going to fight Mike Tyson I picked him to win a decision. But Mike was just too big for Spinks. I never understood that wipeout. Tito moving up was meant to be. I thought he stayed at welterweight a long time and actually did well.. If you compare even Tito at welt. to Duran at lightweight you have equal careers and in someways.Originally Posted by Eli_jr24
So you are saying it was his little bit better than average as opposed to vicious power that resulted in his two losses at middleweight? I repeat, it wasn't lack of power that cost him at middleweight against Hopkins and wright. So I respectfully submit you are barking up the wrong tree.Originally Posted by Eli_jr24
