I think Tyson wins. Liston is a fighter of a different generation, and I don't think he is big or strong enough to beat Tyson.

As far as Liston vs Tyson... I'll go with Tyson by stoppage in the mid to later rounds. I think Liston's jab and reach would give Tyson big problems early, but I think Tyson, who had a great chin and was tough, wwould continue putting the pressure and ripping hard shots and Liston would eventually succumb

Prime Mike Tyson was about 212 lbs. He was never a big HW himself. I don't think size would be a big issue for Liston, so much as Tyson's constant pressure and speed. Also Tyson did have the better chin, it took a sustained beating to put Tyson down for the count, NOT one punch. Be a good fight though, no doubt.Originally Posted by Taeth

Not to mention Liston was a hell of a lot stronger and hit harder than other guys who beat Tyson (Holyfield, Buster Douglas, Danny Williams, Kevin McBride)... ughh, it makes me feel ill inside to list McBride as one of the guys who beat Tyson...

It's not about him, its about the opponent. Tyson was built like a running back, and weighed 212 at 5'9-5'10. I think somebody who fights like Liston would need a little more size. If Liston was a better inside fighter sure I would give him the fight just like Holyfield beat Tyson, but he wasn't.Originally Posted by Hulk
I believe that Listo had a great uppercut. Perfectly for straightening up oppenents and setting them up for his wicked hooks
I think Liston would win
Anyone with a great uppercut could seriously do damage against Tyson.
I dunno if Liston regularly used his though? He was all Lefts (mostly)

I'd pick Tyson in this one....I think he has a better chin and that his hand speed would be the deciding factor....This would be a slugfest and Mike would be able to get off first and take more damage.

Tyson by KO. Entertaining fight, but Tyson is the better boxer, would land much more often.
