Default They lost to the best

This thread is dedicated to very good fighters, who perhaps never reached greatness who had plenty of losses but only to the best. The Juan Laporte Post gave me the idea.

I'll start with Jose Louis Ramirez (102-9), from Mexico who lost to

    Pernell Whitaker
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Hector Camacho
    Edwin Rosario
    Ray Mancini
    Alexis Arguello
    Ruben Olivares
+ one loss early in his career and another to Coggi (who I wouldn't call a great) at the end

How could you forgot Roberto Duran!?
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

hmmm this thread didn't really turn out like I expected. Basically I had looked for fighters who had fought and lost to a lot of the greats without ever really being considered great themselves. So guys like Hearns & Duran, and every guy RJJ faced ( except the ones who beat him) don't really fit the mold, guys like Ramirez, LaPorte, Quarry, would.

Interesting though that Duran is considered by many "experts" to be greater than everyone who ever beat him, but I think we've already had that thread.

    will Frank Bruno do ya

Three defeats to the two greatest heavyweights of his era, plus two others to world champs (actually was Smith world champ?)

Bruno? I wouldn't have picked him, because there aren't that many greats he lost to. only two.
