Dynamite punching Enzo Maccarinelli has promised to puncture 'Big Truck' Wayne Braithwaite when they meet at the Cardiff International Arena on July 21.

It is now confirmed that the 25-year-old from Swansea will make the third and hardest defence of his WBO World Cruiserweight title against the power-punching Guyanan who has knocked-out 18 of his 24 opponents.

Big Mac is relishing the opportunity to match Braithwaite's firepower with his own - that has sparked out 16 of 27 opponents inside the first three rounds - and is confident of making him blow-out.

" The man left standing will be the one who hits first and hits hardest and that will be me," said Maccarinelli.

"I'm looking forward to feeling his power and seeing if he is able to take mine.

"I've been dropped in the past against Bruce Scott and got back up to win and there is a real danger it could happen here but I aim to put a puncture into Big Truck before he does that.

"I reckon the fans will see a real toe-to-toe war that could be like Joe Calzaghe's two round blockbuster against Byron Mitchell a few years back."

Braithwaite, who is based in New York and is promoted by Don King, is ranked #3 by the WBO and #5 by the WBA.

He won the WBC crown with a win over Vincenzo Cantatore in the Italian's backyard in October 2002 and will not be worried about tackling Maccarinelli in front of a partisan Welsh crowd.

Maccarinelli added: "The better the opponent the better I perform and Braithwaite is an experienced boxer and a dangerous puncher who will give me the extra edge in training to prepare.

"He has a record littered with knockout wins and is a former world champion so I hold him in high regard but I don't see anything other than a win for me.

Promoter Frank Warren said: "Enzo is one of the hardest punchers in the world and he's taking on a guy who can certainly punch himself so we could be in for fireworks on the night. This is great fight for Enzo and we could really see him in the trenches and pulling out his big guns to stop Braithwaite.

"It's a fantastic main event and we have a top quality card to support it with Alex Arthur and Gavin Rees challenging for World titles backed up with Welsh stars Gary Lockett, Tony Doherty, Kerry Hope, Nathan Cleverley and Barrie Jones."

    Nice one cc
I just hope we get to see it because there is no indication (as yet) that ITV and Warren are still gonna be in league together at this time.

Thanks, I've heard Warren & ITV are currently at the negotiating table for the London bill...but at this moment, that's not on either. If you notice, Warren is visibly worried about it because his next two cards are loaded with quality matches. I think ITV were pissed at the lack of quality opponents for Calzaghe, Khan & Macc at the last Millenium bill so he's taken chances with Khan & Big Macc giving them legitimate challenges now. In a way, ITV holding out has been very good for British boxing.

haha Glad someones recognised the game they are playing and it is great news for us at the end of the day.
Frank did actually reject their first offer (as if someone as shrewd as him is gonna take the first offer anyway) a month or so ago.
Hope this all gets done and dusted sooner rather than later though because both the Khan/Cook night and the Enzo night have a fantastic card.

Yep, I couldn't agree more. 2 great cards and I can't decide which one to go to! Believe it or not, I've never had the oppertunity to go to see boxing live. Couldn't afford it previously and I've had nobody to go with. Think I've convinced a couple of mates to come to Wales with me though, but I'm at the point were I'd just go on my own if nobody would come with. It's something I've always wanted to do so I intend to go regularly.

Wouldn't it be ironic if we ended up with neither card being televised, with Sports Network having finally managed to put on two really good nights' boxing in London and Cardiff. I hope they get it sorted quickly, cause we boxing fans need these fights on tv, to revitalise interest in Britain. The fights on sky recently have been the more balanced on the whole.

    ARTHUR SPARS GAVIN

Alex Arthur has drafted in talented amateur Frankie Gavin to help him prepare for his WBO super-featherweight title fight against Koba Gogoladze.

Gavin won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games as a lightweight, and is regarded as one of the best amateurs in the UK.

Arthur, who fights the Georgian in Cardiff on July 21 at the CIA, is hoping that Gavin will replicate his southpaw style.

The 21-year-old is also an ABA champion and Four Nations champion.

Meanwhile Arthur damaged the ribs of Colin McNeil during sparring, ruling him out of a clash with Tony Doherty on the same card.

    Doherty gets McIntyre

Tony Doherty will now defend his Celtic welterweight title against Kevin McIntyre after Colin McNeil withdrew from their fight.

Doherty was due to face McNeil on July 21 at the CIA in Cardiff as part of a huge bill in the Welsh capital.

But after the Scotsman pulled out, he was replaced with McIntyre.

The 29-year-old has a 23-5 ( record, and is a former British welterweight title challenger.

Then British champion David Barnes knocked him out in eight rounds in December 2003.

Doherty made a successful defence of his title at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, in April this year.

In his best display to date, the 24-year-old knocked out Taz Jones in the seventh round.

It was an impressive improvement on his previous fight against Jones, which saw him winning with a controversial split decision.

The April win extended Doherty's record to 20-0 (9).

He is keen to secure a British title shot before the end of the year, and looks ready to be really tested.

Doherty-McIntyre is on the undercard of a triple world title bill in Cardiff.

Enzo Maccarinelli defends his WBO cruiserweight title against Wayne Braithwaite, Gavin Rees challenges WBA light-welterweight king Souleymane M'Baye while Alex Arthur fights Koba Gogoladze in a WBO super-featherweight title fight.
